Friday 5+1 (5 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t) – 10.25.19

I don’t know where the month of October has gone, and I just want it all to slow down a bit right now so I can enjoy the gorgeous trees for as long as possible.  It’s like Mother Nature has set them on fire, and if the sun catches them right, they’re even more beautiful.  In other news, I survived my daughter’s 14th birthday party (when did girls get so loud?).  A scavenger hunt was my old school contribution, and I think everyone had a great time.  It’s been awhile since we’ve done a Friday 5+1, and I’ve found some great things to share, so let’s get to it!  This post contains some affiliate links.

The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes

Everyone thinks of Me Before You when they hear the name Jojo Moyes, but I just finished The Giver of Stars and really loved it.  I’m always impressed when an author is versatile, and Moyes certain is in this book.  It’s a book that takes place in the 1930’s in eastern Kentucky and it features strong and interesting characters – primarily women – and how they’ve worked together as Packhorse Librarians.  They deliver library books to people in the rural and mountainous area, and battle against stereotypes, prejudice and power.  I didn’t want this book to end, and felt like the characters in the book were close friends by the time I finished it.  Two thumbs up for sure.

Funny Office Swag

My friend and I went to a local outdoor market event this past weekend, and saw lots of great stuff for the holidays, for the house, and just for fun.  If I still worked in an office, I think I could find a place for some of these office placards.  Heck, they would even work in my home office, because they’re true.

Fun Wine Bags

With the holidays just around the corner, I know many of you will be bringing a bottle of wine to some of the parties and dinners that you attend.  Why not make it a little more fun with a fun wine bag to wrap it up?

Truer words have never been spoken – love this wine gift bag.

Or how about this cute one, available at A Cottage in the City –

Command Hook Adjustables

Command Hooks just keep getting better and better!  I’ve shared some of their cool looking larger scale hooks before, but check out these adjustable ones.  They’re great for things like lights and banners – I know lights are a big thing in dorm rooms and kids’ bedrooms for that matter, and these make it easy and mess free!

Murphy Living His Best Life

You all may remember that our young pup, Murphy, was hit by a car this past summer.  He was really beat up, had surgery, but he’s a tough little guy, and came through it ok.  He’s healed up now, and was living his best life at my daughter’s birthday party last weekend.  I swear, he looked like the Hugh Hefner of dogs…  Notice his stylish scrunchies on his ears – he also had one on his paw at one point.

My +1 for the week – Being ambushed in the grocery store

Recently, I was shopping at Kroger – minding my own business – and was approached by a friendly woman, asking if I was finding everything.  I told her I was, I’ve been shopping here forever, etc…  Then she tries to pitch me a Kroger credit card offer, right there in the dairy section.  What?  A similar experience happened at Walmart this week.  When I’m shopping – especially grocery shopping – the last thing I want to do is to be hit up with a live “telemarketer” in the store.  Please. NO.

I hope you have a fantastic weekend.  Enjoy the gorgeous weather if you have it!

Jenny

Great list and so happy to see your sweet Murphy getting all that attention! Love those wine bags too! Sounds like you need to suggest to that Etsy seller to make a “no soliciting” sign for you to wear at the grocery store!! Crazy!
    Enjoy your weekend!

I think I need a “no soliciting” t-shirt to just wear around in general. 😉

I love these posts ! I agree 100% about being ambushed in the grocery store – that is infuriating ! If I want your credit card I will apply on line – please don’t ambush me ! So annoying – Kind of like the flight attendants on a flight pushing the airlines credit card….they probably hate doing it as much as we hate hearing it !
