I’m still catching up on things around here after going to Haven. I swear, my house resembled a frat house when I got home. Just goes to show you what happens when I’m not around to
nag my kids into submission crack the whip.
It’s time for another Friday 5+1, so let’s get to it!
1. 10 Design Trends to Ditch in 2015
I thought this was an interesting article – 10 Design Trends to Ditch in 2015. Are there any of them that you can relate to for your own home? I have to say, I don’t agree with all of them (namely, the “brass is out” trend). Bad brass, yes. But there is a “good brass” movement out there. However, many are on point.
2. Gardz Surface Sealer Spray
I used the Gardz Surface Sealer after taking down the wallpaper nightmare in my master bathroom makeover for the One Room Challenge, and it was fantastic. In case you’re not familiar with Gardz, it’s a great product for sealing damaged walls before repairing and painting them. My walls were a hot mess of damaged drywall, and the Gardz Surface sealer keeps it from bubbling when you prime/paint the walls.
See what I mean? Hot. Mess.
I saw the Gardz Problem Surface Sealer in a nice spray bottle at my local hardware and thought it was smart for smaller spaces that require some spot repairs. It’s great stuff, and I think with all of the wallpaper removal I’ve done, this has been key in getting my walls back into good shape. I just wish I had found it sooner!
3. St. Tropez Express Self-Tanning Mousse
I have mentioned in the past that I’m a reformed sun worshipper. I still love the look of a bit of color, but don’t want to be out in the sun. I have shared some self-tanners in the past, and thought I’d share St. Tropez Express Self-Tanning Mousse too, because it’s fast becoming my favorite.
- It gives great, natural looking color.
- It goes on nicely with a hint of color so you can make sure you apply it evenly.
- It doesn’t stink like some self-tanners do.
- The color deepens quickly – you’ll have a healthy glow in a matter of hours.
And don’t forget to use an applicator mitt – it makes it easy to apply the self-tanner, and it keeps it off of your hands!
4. Mobile Car Detailing
I am in the process of selling my old van and we just had it detailed yesterday by a local company that does mobile car detailing. Yes, they come to your house, and detail your car. No arranging for a ride to drop off and pick up your car. You set an appointment, they show up, clean your
embarrassingly dirty car, and you’re done! I had to laugh, the guy who did my car asked if my van was used in a team endurance race. I wish I could say that it was – that would be a much better story for why it was so messy.
If you’re in the Dayton area, I can’t say enough good things about Star Wash Mobile Detailing. The owner was very nice and professional, and even squeezed my van in after 5:00 so that we could get it done and delivered to the new owner (a family friend). I wouldn’t want to turn it over in the state it was in – so now it looks practically new!
5. New Car Smell
I picked up my new SUV this week, and ohmygosh, I wish I could just sit in it and inhale the new car smell. Better yet, can I just bottle it and save it for later? We can put a man on the moon, but we can’t bottle the new car smell?
Speaking of smells, that leads me to my +1 Thing That I Don’t Like – the aroma of my 16 year-old son’s bedroom. Dear Lord, I don’t know what happened in there. Worse yet, my son doesn’t smell it. In Febreze terms, he’s noseblind.
I don’t even know if Febreze is strong enough for his room. Is there a special Teen Strength formula? There should be.
Have a great weekend!
