Weekend 5+1 (5 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t) – 4.11.21

It’s been awhile since I’ve pulled together a 5+1 post, so I thought I would put one together a month ahead of our house being torn apart for our renovation.  My mind is semi-clear right now, and I can’t say that it will remain that way much longer. Lots of moving parts coming together, which is good, but I’m also stressed about everything coming together, and hoping that it looks the way I’m envisioning it when it’s all done.  Anyway, let’s get on with this 5+1, shall we? This post contains some affiliate links.

Books by Fiona Lowe

I have discovered a new author, and in my typical fashion, I am binging her books and am currently on my fifth.  She kind of reminds me of Liane Moriarity in that she writes about relationships among women, which I like, and she’s also Australian, so the books are easy to listen to as well.  Good characters, good stories, and just all around good books.  I started with Just an Ordinary Family and am currently listening to Birthright.  I have enjoyed all of the books that I’ve read so far, which I guess is why I keep downloading more of them!

Rifle Paper Co. Wallpaper

I am a big fan of Rifle Paper Co. calendars, but I recently saw a brochure for Rifle Paper Co. wallpaper.  Really pretty and fun, just like their calendars.  I’ve even seen some peel and stick options.  So, you don’t have to fully commit to all that wallpaper implies.

I like the idea of wallpaper in bathrooms.  I feel like you can be bold in bathrooms, and have some fun, whether it’s with punches of color or pops of wallpaper.

If you don’t like pattern, how about a pretty grasscloth?

No Demo Reno

We recently cut the cord on cable (thanks to my husband, I have tried before and got frustrated with the whole process), but now we have YouTubeTV and streaming channels, including Discovery+.  I love Discovery+, by the way.  It’s like my one stop shop for shows that I love.  I found No Demo Reno on Discovery+, and it’s such a great take on remodeling.  Even though we will have some demo in our reno, as we remove a wall and open things up, it’s nice to see how homes can be redone, without completely changing the floor plan and starting over.

Smile Direct Teeth Whitening

A friend of mine (with sparkling white teeth), shared this little gem for at home teeth whitening.  With this Smile Direct Kit you get the whitening tubes, the tray for your teeth, and it plugs into your phone as an LED accelerator light.  My husband and I have both have them now. 🙂

Sherwin Williams Designer Influenced Paint Colors

My friend Cyndy, at The Creativity Exchange share some paint colors that weren’t on my radar.  This designer influenced line of paint colors looks like it could be the perfect go to paint deck for any project.  Here is a sneak peek, but you can check out the whole line, with photos of the colors in actual spaces, over at The Creativity Exchange.

My +1 for the week – Saying goodbye to our senior dog

A few weeks ago, we had to say our goodbyes to our senior rescue dog, Martin.  Even though I know it was the right thing, it still was incredibly difficult.  Thankfully, we were able to have a vet that came to the house, so our whole family could be there to surround him with love as he crossed Rainbow Bridge.

We adopted him about a month after we bought our house, fulfilling a promise to the kids that we would get a dog when we moved, and had a fenced yard.  He was an absolute gem from the very start.  A gentle giant, and a lover of his “people”, he was patient and tolerant (especially when we added a puppy to the family).  He was known to be laying underfoot at holiday parties or family dinners.  He had a mischievous side to him as well, and would jump at the opportunity to go on a jaunt about town if the gate was left open – he was a wanderer, even if he paid for it with aching joints the next day. We will miss him terribly, but are so thankful that we had the privilege of his love and devotion while he was here.

Sorry about the loss of your pup, Martin. We had to put our dog down last December and it was so difficult but every day gets easier. ❤️

We love them, we lose them, we bring more into our lives because they’re SO worth it.

Sorry to hear about Martin. It sounds like you gave him a great life though. I always look forward to your 5+1 and I know this was a tough one for you. We cut the cord & went to YouTube TV last year. It’s not as easy as cable but the price is right for now. Thanks for all your suggestions.

I recently lost my senior rescue dog, Jackson, who sounds (and looks) a lot like Martin. I really appreciate your sharing about it. It was terribly hard to lose my boy and knowing other people grieve for these guys like I do helps my heart.

Martin will always have a special place in our hearts. Our first family dog, and just such an amazing dog in general. We will miss him terribly.
