Weekend 5+1 (5 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t) – 1.16.23

Since it’s a holiday weekend, I’m sending this out on a Monday and still calling it the weekend. Over the past few weeks I’ve cobbled together some finds that I think you’ll find useful (I did at least).  Let’s get on with this 5+1!  This post contains some affiliate links.

The New House

I’m trying to get back into a good book reading mode, and The New House helped me kick off the year on a high note.  If you like the psychological thriller genre (and I think this one falls under “domestic thriller”, which I like), this book should be on your radar.  It starts out as a book about three different couples who are entwined as a result of real estate transactions.  Couples are buying homes from other couples.  But there ends up being much more to the story – situations and circumstances going on between the couples spill over and turn it into something so compelling it’s hard to put down.

Customizable Light Bulbs

You all know my frustration with the state of the light bulb market right now.  It’s overwhelming, expensive and confusing.  Too many options, and it makes me nuts when I go to change a recessed light, only to find that it’s not the right “color”.  I was changing recessed lights in my basement, when I stumbled upon a light bulb that actually makes sense.  Enter customizable light bulbs.  I found these when I was looking through all of the different options, and they have a switch, that lets you change the color of the light.  It’s magic.  So, when I was putting these lights in the basement, I could try out different colors of light and find the one that I like the most, and everything matches.  Brilliant.

Flashlight Gloves

I bought these for my husband as a stocking stuffer for Christmas.  These rechargable flashlight gloves are great for fixing something in a dark place where you can’t use a flashlight easily.  Great idea, right?

Collapsible Cart

I spotted this online and figured there had to be someone out there who thought this collapsible cart was as cool as I did.  You could use this for projects around the house, or if you have a job that requires hauling a lot of stuff here and there, it would be great! Or perhaps you like to go to farmer’s markets or flea markets – bring this baby with you to haul your treasures.

Bombas Gripper Slippers

My husband got me these Bombas slippers for Christmas, and I really love them.  They’re not only warm and cozy, but also super comfortable (squishy and nice to walk in), and they have a grippy bottom so you don’t have to worry about slipping.  He saw how much I liked them, that he even bought a pair for himself.

My +1 for the week…

It can be summed up in a picture.  Saw this late last month, but saw another person doing it just this morning.  Both at my gym.  Apparently I have a lot of issues with the way people park, since I just recently complained about people backing into parking spots…

So there you have it – I hope there was something in here that you might find helpful.  Here’s to a great week ahead!

Hi, I missed your comment about people backing into parking places. I can’t speak for anyone else but I drive a small suv. Backing into a parking place is a safety habit for me because when I pull in, I can’t see oncoming traffic as I back out of the space. Most cars and trucks are much higher than I am.

I guess I get particularly annoyed with it when it happens in a super crowded parking lot and is very disruptive to the flow of traffic. Which is when I typically see it happening.

Hello Jenny – what recessed light wattage do you have in your kitchen area?

I believe I have 2700 lumens – if that makes sense. A warm white.

We usually back into a space so that we don’t back into people walking behind our truck when we pull out of the parking spot. . It is a safety issue. It is a safety hazard backing out of a parking space when we can’t clearly see pedestrians walking behind our truck.

I also drive a SUV and is easier to back in a parking lot. If I pull into it I am usually too far in one direction, can’t see over the hood and may have to back up and readjust the angle of the car.. probably 2 or 3 times. That takes much longer than backing in. So… just smile and wave next time someone backs in. They don’t want to stop traffic any more than anyone else. …BTW, if I’m ever delayed, or pick the slowest check out line, I just figure that’s where God put me today.
