Spring 2018 One Room Challenge Week Five: When Things Don’t Go as Planned

I mentioned in last week’s update, that I was crossing my fingers that the bedding I ordered online worked out, because I didn’t have a Plan B.  Well, I should have guessed that I was cursing myself, because the bedding didn’t work with the daybed.  At all.  It’s beautiful, but a no-go.  (This post contains some affiliate links.)

My Serena and Lily bedding just didn’t jive with the color of the daybed.  Can you see what I’m talking about?  It just doesn’t work.Serena and Lily Bedding

You’ll be happy to hear that I took the bedding to my local UPS store and returned it THAT DAY (albeit for $60+!).  :-0  For real.  It was shipped for free, but returns cost me $$.  I was tempted to order another quilt from them, but frankly, I didn’t want to risk it not working, and have to return another quilt for another $60.  I’ll pass.

Instead, I went with a neutral/white and cheap quilt that I scored for $20.  That’s right.  I had to pivot and make changes on the fly, but I’m making it work.  I figured since I’m going with a neutral quilt now, I can make the rug the focal point of the room.  So, I took a chance and went with this beauty that had all of the colors I was looking to incorporate in the room:

I’m happy to report that it’s as beautiful in person as it appears online!  My only error was that I didn’t order it in a large enough size – so I ordered a bigger rug which will be here by Friday.

I also picked up some fun artwork that I think is going to be completely whimsical in this space.  I spotted it at HomeGoods, and had to bring it home with me.  I mean, how cute is this?

I also found some throw pillows that work with the navy tufted daybed (notice how the polka dots mimic the dots in the artwork).  Coincidence?Navy Polka Dot Pillow

I still have some work to do on space planning in here, but my kids are excited about the new space!  My number one objective is not to have my newly reclaimed space fall victim to stinky teenaged boys over the summer.

I don’t want to give it all away, so here’s a last peek at where things are right now.

I think it will work – fingers crossed!  You know that the One Room Challenge forces me to make decisions and get things done! I have to say, I’ve never been disappointed with one of my One Room Challenge Rooms.  If anything, they’re some of my favorites!  If you’d like to check them out – here are links to the room reveals:

I think you will be happier in the long run with the ivory quilt. Lots of fun pillows! I love the rug you chose.

That is a bummer about the $60 to ship the bedding back, ugh! However your new rug is so, so pretty so that part worked out great! It’s all looking beautiful Jenny, can’t wait to see the big reveal this week! Good luck finishing everything up!
