Saturday 6+1 (6 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t)

I haven’t shared a Friday 5+1 post in awhile, so I figured I’d give a bonus one with a Saturday 6+1.  Same idea, just a day late, but with an extra item to love in since I’m a day late.  Fair enough?  Please cut me a little slack, we just returned from a two day trip for my oldest son’s college orientation – we need some things to love, don’t you think?  Orientation was great – doing it two months ahead of school starting gave us all some time to take it all in, and get acclimated.  While I know it’s going to be difficult, seeing my son jump in and take control of the things he had to do was very reassuring for this mom. 🙂

Let’s get to it, shall we?  My first Saturday 6+1 (6 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t).  This post contains some affiliate links.

A Cheap and Awesome Primer (for your skin!)

I think I’m on a personal mission to discover the best primers that are out there (and I’m talking about make-up primers, not paint primers).  Perhaps I need to do another post on paint primers, as I’m always trying new options there too…  I’m excited to share that I found a super-inexpensive primer that works as well as some of the more expensive primers that I’ve tried.  It’s Maybelline’s Baby Skin Primer.

While I don’t wear a lot of makeup on a daily basis, I always use a primer, and have gotten to the point that I don’t like the way my skin looks/feels without it!  Give this one a try!

Broken Angels

I wrapped up Broken Angels a couple of weeks ago, and it was an interesting take on WWII historical fiction, that I found really thought provoking.

Broken Angels

Here is a synopsis from Amazon –

Imprisoned in the Lodz Ghetto, Elsi discovers her mother’s desperate attempt to end her pregnancy and comes face-to-face with the impossibility of their situation. Risking her own life, Elsi joins a resistance group to sabotage the regime.

Blonde, blue-eyed Matilda is wrenched from her family in Romania and taken to Germany, where her captors attempt to mold her into the perfect Aryan child. Spirited and brave, she must inspire hope in the other stolen children to make her dreams of escape a reality.

Willem, a high-ranking Nazi doctor, plans to save lives when he takes posts in both the ghetto and Auschwitz. After witnessing unimaginable cruelties, he begins to question his role and the future of those he is ordered to destroy.

While Hitler ransacks Europe in pursuit of a pure German race, the lives of three broken souls – thrown together by chance – intertwine. Only love and sacrifice might make them whole again.

A good read that gets you thinking.

A Must-Have Mug

I saw this hysterical coffee mug on Facebook recently, and it just made me laugh out loud.  I shared it with my husband, and I’m pretty sure that I need to buy one for him in case he doesn’t take it upon himself to buy one.  I think you’ll all share my sentiment. And yes, there is a travel mug option too, so he can take it on the road.  You’re welcome.

Bagnet

This is one of those slap-yourself-in-the-forehead-why-didn’t-I-think-of-that kinds of products.  The creator of Bagnet came up with the idea after running into the issue of having nowhere to hang her purse in a public restroom.  We’ve all been there, right?  The bonus is that they can be used in so many more ways!

Bagnet

The great thing is that it can be easily attached to your purse/bag/backpack, so that it’s available and ready to use whenever you need it!  See how stylish it is?  Awesome idea!  I need this in my life – what a great stocking stuffer (Christmas is just six months away you know…).

Auntie Anne’s Copycat Pretzel Bites

My kids love Auntie Anne’s pretzel bites, so when I stumbled upon this copycat recipe from Midget Momma, I had to give it a try.  Oh. my. goodness.  Kids devoured them (and I learned that I shouldn’t have that many pretzel bites at my fingertips – they’re too easy – and delicious – to eat!)

“Anne with an E”

Speaking of Anne, my daughter and I started having a nightly tv/movie watching time together, and we’ve been watching some fun movies and shows in the process.  One that we both loved and had to keep from binge watching all the way through, was “Anne with an E” on Netflix.  It’s a remake of “Anne of Green Gables” and it is so well done!  Amybeth McNulty plays the role of Anne, and she is sheer perfection.  I highly recommend watching it, and dare to say that I think my husband would have enjoyed it as well.  But we girls had a great time with it, and are crossing our fingers that there will be a second season!

Have you watched it?

Anne with an E

My +1 for the week – people on the road who drive around like this:

I kid you not – I was driving behind this person on the road, and was just flabbergasted.  I mean, come on.  But hey, they have it all secured with that yellow nylon strap, right?  I wish I could have gotten a photo of the side of the truck – that’s more drywall, propped up with a couple of two by fours.  What could possibly go wrong?

Have a great weekend!
