Saturday 6+1 (6 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t) – 5.4.19

I feel like we’re rolling into summer already, since my oldest is home from college (with all of his STUFF).  If you need me, I’ll be buried in laundry somewhere…  So, let’s take our mind off of all of that and check out a bonus Saturday 6+1, ok?  This post contains some affiliate links.

Gorgeous Home Renovation

I spotted this beautiful renovation on Houzz, and just love the style and vibe to this home. Check out this laundry room for starters (you know how I love brick floors).

Or how about this indoor/outdoor concept in this kitchen?  Love.  Check out the full tour here.

Blink XT Home Security Cameras

I don’t know about you, but in our local Facebook community groups, people sometimes share snippets from their security cameras of random/suspicious people coming to their doors during the day, stealing packages, etc…  So, getting a security camera has been on my mind for awhile now.  Not to mention that we have a walk-out basement, summer is coming, and I know how easy it is for people to come and go without our knowledge.  After reading reviews about the Blink XT Home Security Cameras, we installed these cameras without the boys’ knowledge.  Shhhh, don’t tell them.  I also added these wall mounts and silicone covers that give you the ability to easily adjust the camera to an angle that works for you.

Here’s what I love about these cameras:

  • They’re easy to install (they don’t require any wires and connect to your wifi).
  • There is an app that comes with the cameras that notifies you when motion is detected.
  • Within the app, you receive video clips of the motion that was detected.
  • You can also view the cameras, live, in real time from the app.
  • They’re weatherproof.
  • There is no monthly maintenance fee.

Here is a screen shot from my phone showing that there were indeed shenanigans going on last night.  It will be interesting to see how my kids react when I ask questions and then have proof to back it up.  I’m wicked, I know.

Blink XT Security System

I’ll stop babbling about them now, but I have to tell you, I’m really happy with them!  So if you’ve been thinking about investing in a security system, this one is inexpensive and it works!

Graduation Cake Toppers

I spotted these fun graduation cake toppers on Etsy, and love them.  As you may remember, I have another kiddo graduating this month, and his grad party is the first Saturday in June.  I know I should be more stressed about it, but I think once you’ve gotten one under your belt, you stress a little bit less.  I’m keeping it simple – food that is easy to pick up and eat – nothing fancy.  A tent, outdoor games, photos, food and drinks, DONE.  If you’re planning a grad party this year, check out my son’s outdoor graduation party from 2017 here.

Multifocal Contacts

I’m at that age where your vision starts to go, and it’s been super-frustrating to me.  I had Lasik years ago, and even my distance vision has been flaky.  I’ve developed an astigmatism, and I also have super dry eyes, which is maddening.  Even though the distance change is small, it’s enough to where it’s noticeable.  I’m back to wearing contact lenses, and that’s been difficult because my eyes are so dry.  Round and round we go.  I have finally found a solution!  I had tear duct plugs put it (it sounds awful, but it’s not), and that has been a huge help with my dry eyes.  But having to put reading glasses on whenever I try to read something is awful!  Enter Dailies Total 1 Multifocal Contact lenses.  I can now see and read without readers, and my eyes don’t feel like sandpaper anymore!  They have been life changing for me, because when your vision and eyes are having problems, it affects everything.

Handy Roller Pail

This Handy Roller Pail is perfect for double duty painting like I do when I paint cabinets – it holds my paint mini roller AND a brush (see the magnet?), all in one tool!

Grocery Delivery

I have done the online ordering and pick up of groceries, but this week I tried the grocery delivery.  It was $5 more than pickup, but I could have the groceries delivered at the same time that I would have been able to pick them up.  It was super easy – I could pull up my old grocery orders (whether online or in the store), and easily shop for the items that I normally purchase.  I don’t think I’ll ever set foot in a grocery store again!

My +1 for the week – Any sport that has a “meet”

Don’t get me wrong, I love watching my kids play sports and be active.  That said, I’m not a fan of “meets”.  My daughter is running junior high track this year, and going to a meet means that I get to spend three hours at a sporting event, to watch my kid for 30 seconds.  The things we do for our kiddos, right?

Have a great weekend!

Oh yes, meets! Our son was a competitive swimmer so at least once a month we sat for 3-4 hours to watch a couple of minutes of swimming and you know if you left the pool to get coffee, they would change the order of events and you would miss his race 🙂

I used to wear contacts and my optometrist kept telling me that my eyes were too dry for them. Now mind you, I wore them for 30 years! When I turned 51 I finally got glasses because he told me I would see so much better. He was right and now I am on my 2nd pair and I will never go back to contacts because I see so much better and I have trifocals. Ugh, Getting older!
