DIY Raised Garden Beds

Happy Monday!

This week is the kids’ last full week of school, so I’m bracing myself for a much louder (and hungrier) house as we roll into the summer months.

On Friday’s edition of 5+1, I gave you a peek at the raised garden beds I was constructing, thanks to the brilliantly talented Ana White.  I have finished four of them now, and I might add some more, since I still have some fence pickets left in my garage.  What I love about these raised beds, is how easy it is to add more of them if you want to expand the size of your garden.

I do still need to add trim pieces to the tops of three of these raised beds, but I was in a hurry to get my veggies planted, so I had to prioritize.  You can see the difference between these two beds if you look closely.  The one on the right is trimmed out on the top.

I previously had a garden in this same spot, but like the more organized look of raised beds, and I’m hoping that fresh soil this year will do me some good as well.  Last year was a sad gardening year – really wet and cooler than normal – not conducive to my growing veggies.  Fingers crossed that this year is successful.

Again, if you want to give these babies a whirl, click here for Ana’s uber-easy plans!

My husband just commented that my beds look like coffins.  Awesome.

I also planted my flowers in my pots, so it’s been a very physical weekend, as you might imagine.

I’m getting ready to start working on some bathroom cabinets this week, and am excited to be doing them in a great shade of gray – looking forward to sharing the transformation!

Have a great day!

Your bathroom looks similar to the one I'm about to start transforming and I too am going with a gray paint color for the cabinets. Cant wait to follow you along on this journey 🙂

Cheers to those raised beds and all that physical labor! You must be so thrilled – they look great and will be so fun to cultivate this summer!!!! I need updates! And do tell – what kind of veggies are you growing?

Amazing! I love the look of your DIY raised garden beds. The wood is really elegant to look at. Are those stained? It looks really good. Anyway, coffins were the last thing on my mind. Maybe your hubby was just concerned with how tall the beds look compared to others. They still look great, though. I'm sure once the plants start to grow and mature, it'll look even more fantastic. All the best!

Congrats on your veggie gardening plans and I'd say you'll find it difficult to get away from coffin-shaped planters, they're the inexpensive option! Have you considered rainwater harvesting to optimize water conservation and ensure you have sufficient during warmer months? It's an easy matter to fit barrels to collect water run-off from the roof and will benefit veggies and flowers.
