A Pretty Paneled Headboard Wall

Hello all!

Sorry this is a day late, but I think it will be worth it!  Yesterday was a cold and dreary day, and I was just not loving the light for my photos.  Is it too much to ask for a sliver of sunlight?  Plus, my son has the flu, so I was a bit scattered anyway!

But things are looking brighter in my daughter Kate’s, bedroom!  I have to admit, since we’ve moved, I haven’t done a whole lot to the kids’ rooms, aside from painting them.  But one thing that has been bugging me for awhile now, is that my daughter’s bed just looks… unfinished.  She has adorable bedding (PB Outlet), but I haven’t found a headboard that I really like.

But along came this beautiful inspiration (thank you, Emily A. Clark).  Ever since I laid eyes on it – I have had this paneled wall image in the back of my mind…

Why not give this a shot, right?  You don’t necessarily need the headboard AND the paneled wall to make a statement.  I find the paneled wall alone really striking!

First things first.  I needed to rearrange her bedroom.  There aren’t a whole lot of options, and the original setup just wasn’t really working.

So, here are some pictures of her room before we got to work.  I should say that part of what triggered this paneled headboard was that Kate wanted to “organize her room”.  Who am I to stand in the way of progress?  (And yes, it’s dark.  What can I say?  Women in this house get motivated in the nighttime hours.  Perhaps it has something to do with me painting our master bedroom the day before I went into labor with her…).

This is the view from her bedroom door (prior to clearing anything out).  You can see that some items have made their way up from the basement:

Again, a view from her bedroom door, slightly to the right.  Lots of doors to deal with in this space.

A shot from the doorway of the Jack & Jill bathroom.  More doors.

Like I said, this setup just wasn’t working.  Plus, she has one additional nightstand that shouldn’t even be in her room.  Too much stuff!

So, from here, I rearranged the furniture.

I’m liking the flow of the room more already.  I am thinking that a smaller dresser may be in order, but that’s for another time.  I’m also adding “paint the treasure chest” to my to-do list in this room.

But now that the paneled headboard wall is complete, it really adds to the character of the room and I’m loving it!  I love the texture and the interest it brings.  Excuse the photo overload here.  Can you tell I’m excited?

I’m still debating on the artwork here – what do you think?  When I hang it on the wall, it just gets lost in the Sea of Pink.  When I hang it on the paneled wall, you could actually see it.  So, this is where it stands for now.

What do you think?  Leave the artwork there?  Or better off without?

But wait!  Just when you thought it couldn’t get any cuter… (I literally thought of this just before I was going to post).

Who can resist a boxwood wreath?  Wait, is that a cute, coordinating boxwood topiary on the nightstand?  Oh yes it is!

Well, there you have it.  I will post a tutorial on this project in the days to come.

Enjoy your day!

I love what you did to the wall, and the wreath is perfect. I agree, the pink sign did get lost in all the pink of the wall. The wreath just pops out in a nice contrast. Beautiful!!!

Jenny, this is so cute. That wall has become the perfect headboard. The artwork was cute there, but the wreath looks really good! Thanks so much for linking to WUW.

Wow! What a great job on that paneled wall…could you do a short tutorial on how that was done? I love BOTH the picture and the wreath so I'm no help there but I also like the wall "bare"…

I ADORE This! The room really pops. Nice job. I know she has to love it!

& I'm a sucker for a cute saying. My vote is move the wreath to the wall since it will be ok with the pink & add the sign, which is just precious!

Amazing! This looks so great and the new layout seems to work much better. I've got to say I'm partial to the wreath but I think I like the better contrast against the paneling.

    Love it!

I love it! Such a big difference. I would really like to see how you did the paneling. I like the wreath better above the bed then the plaque. Maybe the plaque could go on one of the many doors so it stands out on the white.

I love the wreath the most! The dark green against the white seems more crisp and clean than the saying. And I love how it ties in with the green pillows and the topiary!

This looks wonderful. I've been thinking of making an upholstered headboard for my bedroom but this has got me thinking of doing paneling between my windows. Thanks for the great idea!

I think this looks better and has more impact than if you did it in the entire room. It really makes the bed look dreamy – love the wreath.

Beautiful room! Any girl would LOVE that!! You know what you could do with that pink hanging? Buy a larger piece of mdf and paint it either white or the green color and put it behind the hanging, as a mat. You have to hang that somewhere… the words are just too precious. 🙂
