Hello friends!
We had a gloriously beautiful fall weekend here – so nice, that I even picked up some mums to start sprucing up the outdoor areas for a new season. The cool air gets the seasonal decorating juices flowing!
And with the crisp fall temperatures, it has me itching to get our fireplace fail back into shape so that I’ll have some mantel decorating to do. If I’m lucky, I’ll have it done in time to hang Christmas stockings. A girl can dream, right?
That said, I have been doing some demo, so my fireplace has gone from this:

My boys came home from school in the midst of my destruction and wanted in on the action, so I obliged. Look at that technique – a natural, I tell you.
I also brought infinity+1 additional stone samples home – I think I’m getting closer to making a decision. These are the three contenders (at this point):
Brighton Ledgestone (my favorite right now):
It’s a new stone to the Heritage Stone collection, and so far I can’t find any examples of this stone put to use on a real-life project. I will keep looking, as seeing a finished product where the stone is used is really helpful to me in visualizing it in my home.
Nantucket Limestone:
And then there is the Sandusky Shore Limestone:
Probably third in the running at this moment, but still a contender.
I still have grand ideas of what this fireplace could be – such difficult decisions, with so many choices. Have any of you had to choose a fireplace stone before? Any suggestions? Favorites? Tips? I’m all ears!
On a side note, I don’t know how anyone manages to stay sane in building a home from scratch. How someone wades through all of the options available out there, and the sheer volume of decisions that need to be made is mind boggling!

September 17, 2013 at 2:54 amI love your first choice, the Brighton Ledgestone. I think the other two are nice but for a bigger project – they just seem out of scale for a normal interior fireplace. I laugh thinking about when we built our home 32 years ago. We were so young we had no clue what we were doing. Fortunately the builder had lots of experience and guided us in a lot of the decisions. We have been very happy here but I will admit there are a few things I would change if I were doing it today!

September 18, 2013 at 11:29 amThey are all pretty and work so well with your house, I think. The first one is my favorite too – but I agree, it's hard to visualize without seeing it applied. It's going to be gorgeous in the end!!!
