One Room Challenge Week #5 – Bold Artwork

I think I’ve been a bit too calm, since I found out last week that we get an EXTRA WEEK to finish the One Room Challenge.  I think I would have been better off not knowing that information, and (gasp) finish ahead of schedule.  What a crazy idea, right? But alas, no, we have an extra week, which leaves me browsing the internet for new elements that I could add to my dining room.  Like beautiful wallpaper – I blame Kris at Driven by Decor for this distraction.  Have you seen her wallpaper choices for the One Room Challenge?  Or, since wallpaper would be pushing the limit at this stage of the game, a pretty stencil like this one.  Because that’s where my mind goes when it hears there is an extra week to get stuff done.  This post contains some affiliate links.

Focus, Jenny. Focus.

In case you need to catch up, here are my posts on this One Room Challenge so far:

One Room Challenge Week #1:  Dining Room Plans

One Room Challenge Week #2: Fabric Ideas

One Room Challenge Week #3: Paint and the Crypt Keeper Chandelier

One Room Challenge Week #4: Rugs + Chairs + DEALS

My rug arrived this week, but I haven’t put it in place yet because I still have some touching up to do on the walls, and I’m afraid the puppy will mark his territory, which he has a knack for doing when I try to bring nice things into my home.  I’m a teeny bit nervous about the color, since getting blues to match is more difficult than you might think.  But since the rug is on the floor, I am going to let my OCD settle down a bit and not freak out.

My mom has been working diligently on my curtains, and I can’t wait to get them in place because then I think I can make other decisions, that I’ve been hesitant about, wanting to be sure that all of the fabrics I get are simpatico.  She even put in some time during trick or treating this week, all dressed up in her pilgrim costume (which she has worn on Thanksgiving in the past).  How cute is she?

I’m a slave driver, I know.

One Room Challenge Week 5

still haven’t pulled the trigger on upholstered dining room chairs for the ends of our dining room table, BUT, our chandelier is going to be installed tomorrow, so I’m really excited about that.  I think that’s going to be a huge difference, and it’s long overdue!

I’m still on the hunt for artwork, and as is the case for many things that I like/want – my taste exceeds what I’m willing to spend.  I’m really loving these prints from Studio McGee (along with everything else that’s Studio McGee for that matter).  While I don’t have a mid-century modern vibe going on in my home, I love the pop of color that these provide, and they would really tie together my navy look.

Studio McGee Wall Art

I’m also loving this large scale artwork (also from Studio McGee).

Studio McGee Leaf Artwork

I found this print on Artfully Walls – a cool large scale print that you can purchase framed or on its own.  While it’s less expensive than my other choices, can someone explain to me why framing is so darn expensive?

So, things are getting done, but I don’t think my Inner Panic Monster has awakened just yet.  Still too much time for the Instant Gratification Monkey to keep me looking at all the pretty things.

By next week, I expect to be more in this mode:

But overall, I feel pretty good about the progress I’m making.  There are always going to be last minute things that need to be put together, but in the end, it gets done!

Jenny your mom is the cutest! I love her sewing in costume! And that fabric for the curtains, I’m dying. This is all going to be so gorgeous, I can’t wait to see it come together! You’ve got this!

A suggestion for art–buy a digital print from Etsy. Buy ready made frames with coupons from the big box craft stores. Crop the digital print if necessary to fit the frame. You can also size the image smaller than the frame but make the canvas size larger. This way, it looks like there’s a mat around the image. Have it printed at some place like Staples. This way you won’t have to worry about getting art work in time. I recently added new art when I redecorated and this is what I did. My drapery print is kind of the same style as yours and in similar colors (white background, navy, teal, with a little bit of gray). I went abstract with the art and some of the prints include fuchsia for a nice splash of color and I love the contract between the abstract art and the more traditional-looking draperies. I can’t wait to see your finished room! And love the picture of your mom! This is the digital print I bought: https://www.etsy.com/listing/545335645/large-abstract-painting-printable?ref=shop_home_active_24. And I like this one, too: https://www.etsy.com/listing/534563195/abstract-art-print-set-set-of-3-prints?ref=listing-shop-header-0

I did look on Etsy at digital prints, but it never occurred to me to do it the way you said! What a great idea! Thanks so much – I’m so excited to see this room come together!
