Friday 5+1 (5 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t) – 12.15.17

I seriously can’t believe that Christmas is just 10 days away.  I feel like I’m so late to the party this year in terms of decorating, shopping, etc…  Everything always gets done, but it would be nice to do it without going to Defcon 5 stress levels.  Granted, some much of the stress is self-induced, but for some reason, I get jazzed about projects around the holidays.  It’s just how I roll.  Let’s get on with this week’s Friday 5+1!  This post contains some affiliate links.

Magnolia Home Paint at Ace Hardware

I was working on a client kitchen this week, and had to make a run to the hardware store for trash bags.  Granted, this isn’t my “usual” Ace Hardware store, so you can imagine my surprise and delight at seeing a Magnolia Paint display there!  I’m really hoping this paint will make its way to our Ace store, but I made sure to get my fair share of samples while I was there.  Do you have the Magnolia Home paint line available near you?  Have you tried it?  I’m really hoping to test it out at some point – especially the trim and cabinetry paint.

2017 Cookie Exchange

While I’ll admit to collapsing in a heap on Sunday after my annual cookie exchange, it was a great party.  I can’t tell you how thankful I am for this group of women.  We don’t always get to see one another as often as we’d like, but we always pick up where we left off when we see each other.  I am so blessed to have such a great group of friends.

And the cookies weren’t bad either!

Behind Her Eyes

I recently finished Behind Her Eyes, and still can’t fully make up my mind about how it ended, but it kept my attention in order to find out just what happened, so I figure it’s worth a share.

Behind Her Eyes

Here is the Amazon description:

Why is everyone talking about the ending of Sarah Pinborough’s Behind Her Eyes?

Louise is a single mom, a secretary, stuck in a modern-day rut. On a rare night out, she meets a man in a bar, and sparks fly. Though he leaves after they kiss, she’s thrilled she finally connected with someone.

When Louise arrives at work on Monday, she meets her new boss, David. The man from the bar. The very married man from the bar…who says the kiss was a terrible mistake but who still can’t keep his eyes off Louise.

And then Louise bumps into Adele, who’s new to town and in need of a friend. But she also just happens to be married to David. And if you think you know where this story is going, think again, because Behind Her Eyes is like no other book you’ve heard before.

David and Adele look like the picture-perfect husband and wife. But then why is David so controlling? And why is Adele so scared of him?

As Louise is drawn into David and Adele’s orbit, she uncovers more puzzling questions than answers. The only thing that is crystal clear is that something in this marriage is very, very wrong. But Louise can’t guess how wrong – and how far a person might go to protect their marriage’s secrets.

Sarah Pinborough’s Behind Her Eyes takes the modern-day love triangle and not only turns it on its head but completely reinvents it in a way that will leave listeners reeling.

House Rules

I’m still working my way through House Rules, and am almost finished, since I’ve been spraying another kitchen this week, and have had a lot of time to allow for uninterrupted listening. 🙂  I’m still trying to figure out how this book is going to play out.

House Rules

The astonishing novel from the number-one New York Times best-selling author Jodi Picoult about a young boy with autism falsely accused of murder.

When your son can’t look you in the eye…does that mean he’s guilty?

Jacob Hunt is a teen with Asperger’s syndrome. He’s hopeless at reading social cues or expressing himself well to others, though he is brilliant in many ways. But he has a special focus on one subject – forensic analysis. A police scanner in his room clues him in to crime scenes, and he’s always showing up and telling the cops what to do. And he’s usually right.

But when Jacob’s small hometown is rocked by a terrible murder, law enforcement comes to him. Jacob’s behaviors are hallmark Asperger’s, but they look a lot like guilt to the local police. Suddenly the Hunt family, who only want to fit in, are directly in the spotlight. For Jacob’s mother, Emma, it’s a brutal reminder of the intolerance and misunderstanding that always threaten her family. For his brother, Theo, it’s another indication why nothing is normal because of Jacob.

And over this small family, the soul-searing question looms: Did Jacob commit murder?

Audew Portable Air Compressor Pump/Tire Inflator

This little gadget is a great idea, and serves multiple purposes.  It can inflate all sorts of tires – bikes, cars, RVs, etc… and it shuts off automatically when you reach the desired tire pressure.  Would make for a great gift for a new driver (or any driver for that matter), or someone who enjoys cycling to have handy in the garage.  Multi-purpose, and it saves you a trip to the gas station to get air there.Audew Tire Pump Compressor

My +1 for the week – The Cold

The temps here have plunged, and while I have lived through even colder temperatures, I can’t seem to get warm!  Has my blood gotten thinner?  I just want to curl up under a blanket and sit in front of a warm fire.  I’ve alway been pretty tolerant of cold, so I don’t know what’s going on with me this year.

Have an awesome weekend!

Jenny

Thank you for your gift ideas, I just ordered the portable air compressor for my son in law. Merry Christmas! (adding: just a thought about feeling cold all the time, have you had your thyroid checked?)

I haven’t had it checked, but I’m thinking I might need to ask about it the next time I go to the doctor. I’ve lived in the midwest my whole life, so I feel like I’m pretty tolerant when it comes to cold weather. It’s not like I live in Florida, and am here visiting! Merry Christmas!
