Friday 5+1 (5 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t) – 10.13.17

I hope you’re ready for a great weekend ahead!  I’ve been chatting with my mom this evening about my drapes for the One Room Challenge, so my fingers are crossed that she’s up to the task.  Lining the drapes is her biggest concern, so I’m doing everything I can to help make this happen.  She’s so good, and has the patience of Mother Teresa – I kid you not.  Let’s get on with this week’s Friday 5+1!  This post contains some affiliate links.

With Love from the Inside

I love sharing good books, and this is the first book that has made me cry in a long time.  Probably since I read The Nightingale (my most favorite book, ever).  With Love from the Inside is a book about love, family, motherhood, bravery and forgiveness.  It’s brutally beautiful, if that makes any sense at all.  I really enjoyed it, and it kept me listening (since I listen via Audible) from the start.

With Love from the Inside

Here is Amazon’s description of the book:

Angela Pisel’s poignant debut explores the complex relationship between a mother and a daughter, their quest to discover the truth, and whether or not love can prevail – even from behind bars.

Grace Bradshaw knows the exact minute she will die. On death row for murdering her infant son, her last breath will be taken on February 15 at 12:01 a.m. Eleven years, five months, and 27 days separate her from the last time she heard her precious daughter’s voice and the final moment she’d heard anyone call her mom. Out of appeals, she can focus on only one thing – reconnecting with her daughter and making sure she knows the truth.

Secrets lurk behind Sophie Logan’s big house and even bigger bank account. Every day when she kisses her husband good-bye, she worries her fabricated life is about to come crumbling down. No one knows the unforgivable things her mother did to tear her family apart – not her husband, who is a prominent plastic surgeon, or her “synthetic” friends who live in her upscale neighborhood.

Grace’s looming execution date forces Sophie to revisit the traumatic events that haunted her childhood. When she returns to her hometown, she discovers new evidence about her baby brother William’s death 17 years ago – proof that might set her mother free but shatter her own marriage forever.

Sophie must quickly decide if her mother is the monster the prosecutor made her out to be or the loving mother she remembers – the one who painted her toenails glittery pink and plastered Post-it notes with inspiring quotes (“100 percent failure rate if you don’t try”) all over Sophie’s bathroom mirror – before their time runs out.

A great read – I couldn’t stop listening and finished it within a week or so.  Two thumbs up!

Dog Butt Magnets

Ok yes, this is silly and so juvenile, but I’m the mother of three kids, and butts always get the laugh.  These are fun and light – I could see these dog butt magnets on the fridge, couldn’t you?  There’s even a fire hydrant!  The holidays aren’t far away – what a fun stocking stuffer or a white elephant gift, right?  I’m here to serve.

Dog Butt MagnetsMr. Tea Infuser

Maybe this is my 80’s girl shining through, but I got a little bit of a giggle out of this Mr. Tea Infuser (or how about this Manatea Infuser).  Again, just something fun and light for someone who appreciates a cup of tea.

Adhesive Plate Hangers

I was meeting with a friend of mine today, helping her with paint colors and changing up her home decor, and we’re looking at adding a plate wall in her house.  She has the plates, she even has the hangers.  These are some cool adhesive plate hangers that aren’t a hassle to deal with when creating a cool feature wall.

Olive Color Crush

Even though fall seems to be taking its sweet old time getting here, I’m soooo ready for it.  And so is my friend Kayla, at Painted by Kayla Payne.  Check out her Olive color crush options here.

My +1 for the week – a LIVE BIRD in my house

Yes, you read that right.  Last Friday night we ordered pizza, and since I have two completely crazy dogs that think the pizza delivery guy is an armed intruder, I ran outside to pay him in an effort to calm the chaos.  Well, in the split second it took to open the door and run outside, a bird flew into the house!  I know that’s bad luck somewhere, and I turned into a screeching lunatic.  Luckily, the poor thing didn’t poop all over the place, and we were able to coerce it back outside, thanks to my husband’s quick thinking with his defensive bird gear:

I hope you have something fun on tap this weekend!  Have a great one!
