Friday 5+1 (5 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t) – 1.12.18

So, we’re waiting for more winter weather to roll on in (even though it was nearly 60 degrees today), and I’m thinking I need to have a beach house for the next three months or so.  School has already been canceled for tomorrow, and the kids are off for MLK Day on Monday, so that makes it their second four day weekend in a row.  I think my kids might go into shock if/when they have to go to school for a full week.  Let’s get on with this week’s Friday 5+1!

Star Wars Cookie Cutters

I don’t know if your kids/family/husband get geeked out about Star Wars, but my boys are a bit obsessed with it, even as teens.  I bought tickets for the newest Star Wars movie two months in advance so we could see it on opening day, which happened to be when my oldest came home from college for winter break.  It was a blast, and my boys went back to acting like they were about 8 years old, wanting to have light saber battles.  So that’s why I’m sharing these Star Wars cookie cutters.  In case you have some Star Wars peeps in your house.

Jennifer Allwood’s Inner Circle

I’m always reading/listening/watching/learning when it comes to growing my blog and business, and if you’re in the same boat, I have to give a shout out to Jennifer Allwood’s Inner Circle Facebook Group.  I joined it a few months ago, and it’s been a great source of information, encouragement and inspiration – not only from Jennifer, but also from those creative business owners in the group.  She has webinars every month answering questions from the group, and also brings in outside speakers to share their niche that provides value as well.  Just lots of great information and resources if you’re looking to learn new things as they pertain to your business/blog, and need someone to push you out of your comfort zone a bit as well.

Calia by Carrie Underwood

Have you seen Carrie Underwood’s Calia activewear line at Dick’s Sporting Goods?  I really love it and have bought quite a few of her pieces myself.  The fabric is buttery soft and the styles are really cute.  I love their graphic tanks for wearing when you’re out and about or even for a workout.

Work hard evolve

I’ve lost count of how many of the everyday tanks that I have.  These are my favorite.  They’re comfortable, and I love the length on them too.

Family Bobble Heads

I wish I had seen this before Christmas, but I’m filing it away for this year.  How about some family bobble heads as a family gift?  They’re so fun and a creative gift idea as well.  Or you could give them as a gift to a couple getting married, your best friend or your spouse as a birthday gift.  I think they’re hysterical.  Check out these made from Likenessme.com.

Tuscan Tortellini Soup

I made this Tuscan Tortellini Soup this week, and not only was it delicious, it was really easy to make.  Perfect food for cold winter days!

Tuscan Tortellini Soup

My +1 for the week –

In the interest of transparency, I will admit that I get a bit OCD when it comes to bad grammar (my dad is a retired college professor, and my mom is a retired 5th grade teacher), so I just. can’t. help. it.  It’s just been ingrained in me as part of my upbringing.  That said, you can see why I would get a bit irritated going into a paint store and hearing the paint guy (not my normal paint guy/store that I know and trust) – call Benjamin Moore’s Aura paint – Aurora paint.

He was helping a customer when he referred to it as such.  I was looking at paint colors, and I overheard the conversation and told the customer that I loved the Aura paint (which I do – it’s amazing).  Then, the color mixing machine wasn’t working and the paint guy called for help and proceeded to say that he was “having problems mixing the Aurora paint.”  I had to leave because this guy obviously did not know what he was talking about.

Am I the only one that gets irritated by such silly things?

Jenny

Ha – that would have driven me crazy as well! I hate when people pronounce things the wrong way. It’s pouring but in the 60s here in NJ today. The temps are supposed to drop tomorrow so all that ice should be fun…ugh. Enjoy your weekend!

Oh my that soup looks good. Perfect for these cold, wet winter days. And no, you are not the only one. He should know the product that he is trying to sell. That is one of my biggest pet peeves. If I go into a store and am inquiring about a product and I know more than the salesperson, there is a problem!

First want to say that I really enjoy your blog. It’s always full of useful information and I really LOVE seeing your decorating and painting before and afters ! You really do beautiful work ! Also – your Friday 5 + 1 is one of my favorites – I’ve tried a lot of the products that you recommend there, and read a lot of the books you review. So thank you for a great blog !

As far as your 1 thing for the week that you don’t like – you never know about the gentleman that was mispronouncing the paint name (Aura). Could he have a reading or speech issue…or some other issue that we can’t necessarily see ? Of course, he may have just been mispronouncing the name – but sometimes there are things going on we can’t see or know about. I learned this after working in a hospital for 25 years ….

You may be right Patricia. I need to keep those things in mind as well. 🙂

Perhaps you should’ve politely corrected him! Just for future reference, if it bothered you that much! I’m sure he would’ve appreciated it!

I did inadvertently correct him when I told him and the customer how much I liked the Aura paint. Perhaps I need to be more direct (which I’m not always good at in these situations). 🙂

I do notice incorrect grammar by people in all industries; however, using perfect grammar does not make a wonderful human being. Always be KIND regardless. At least he is working and trying to provide for his family.
