Friday 5+1 (5 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t) – 9.9.16

Happy Friday!

I hope you’ve had a great shortened week and are ready for the weekend.  I’m not sure where it went!  I wrapped up a kitchen last week and started a new one this week.  I have also started working on my “Painter in Your Pocket” series of posts about paint sprayers.  I’m really excited to share – and there is a lot of information, so I’m hoping you all will find it useful!  I have even started putting together some videos.  Never mind that in the one I worked on today, I had a big glob of paint on my chin and had no idea.  Perhaps this is a sign…  In case you missed some of my previous “Painter in Your Pocket” posts in the series, you can check them out here:

Anyway, back to the subject at hand – this week’s Friday 5+1 (5 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t).  This post contains some affiliate links.

Books for Fall

If you’re looking for new books to read, check out this list of the most anticipated books for the fall.  I already have a couple on my list that I’m adding to my list.

Things I Want my Teenage Sons to Know

As the mother of two teen sons, I thought this article on Things I Want my Teenage Sons to Know was an interesting read.  Especially since my oldest is a senior (can you even believe we have senior pictures next week?).  I’m going to print it out and have both of them read it.  Even though I feel like we’ve done a good job on instilling good values and have raised them well, there are still some good words of wisdom in there.

Downton Abbey

I know I’m a little late to the party, but I finally finished the last season of Downton Abbey, and it was so. good.  I absolutely loved the series, the characters, the humor, and even the ending.

Sarah’s Amazing Hangout Space

Have you seen Sarah’s new hangout/office/crafting space that she has transformed over at Thrifty Decor Chick?  It’s just perfect, and I can’t even find a favorite thing, it’s all so darn gorgeous.  She’s such a talented girl, and continues to amaze me with her home makeovers.

A Beautiful Architectural Portfolio

I can’t even remember how I stumbled upon this stunning portfolio at Fergus Garber Young, but if you’re in the mood for some architectural eye candy, give them a look.  This modern farmhouse caught my eye right away!

Or maybe this farmhouse duplex?  A duplex has never looked so good!

Or maybe you’re a fan of the Craftsman style

My +1 for the week – Lightbulbs, the Sequel

I know I’ve shared my lightbulb frustration in the past, but it bears repeating, especially after seeing this:

Lightbulbs

You’re telling me that these lightbulbs will last 18 years?  For some reason, I’m just not buying what they’re selling.  Especially since I haven’t noticed my new lightbulbs lasting any longer than the old ones.  I’m only noticing that it costs a lot more money to buy them.  If a lightbulb is going to last 18 years, it’s becoming more of an investment than anything, isn’t it?  I mean, 18 years from now, I’ll be almost retired.  And if it doesn’t last that long, am I expected to hold on to my receipt for the duration of time that it takes for a child to be born, grow up, and leave the house?  Come ON.

Assuming I can even remember where I bought it by that time.  I’m pretty forgetful as it is…

Have a fantastic weekend!

Jenny

So excited to hear you’ve taken the plunge with the new videos, paint blobs be damned! By the way, I revisited the Painter in your Pocket posts–some really good stuff there, Jenny. Glad you’ll be continuing the series.

And LED lights annoy me, too. The last ones I tried lasted exactly 7 hours! Fortunately I bought them at Costco. When I returned them, I noticed a number of others in the return bin. Seems we’re not alone.
