Friday 5+1 (5 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t) – 8.31.18

And just like that, we’re rolling into September.  I just can’t.  While I love fall, I loathe winter a little more with each passing year, and dread shorter days and colder temperatures.  But, let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves – after all, it’s still blazing hot outside with no signs of relief anytime soon.  September is a nice transition month, so let’s enjoy it while it lasts.  Let’s get on with this week’s Friday 5+1!  This post contains some affiliate links.

How Hard Can It Be?

I bought and listened to How Hard Can It Be? in a matter of about two days, and loved it.  It’s a quick and clever read that had me laughing just a few chapters into it.  If you ever read the book, or saw the movie “I Don’t Know How She Does It” – this is a sequel to that, taking place as the main character, Kate, is heading into peri menopause and dealing with growing kids (including a teenage daughter) and aging parents for starters.  If you’re looking for a light read, something funny and not too serious, this book hits the mark.

Shop My Favorite Books

Speaking of books, I’ve gotten requests to corral my favorite books in one place, and I finally did it!  You can see it along the top of my header, where it says “My Favorite Books” and voila!

My favorite books

Cute Beer Coasters

While I’m not much of a beer drinker, (I’m more of a wine or vodka tonic drinker), I spotted these at a local shop, and thought they were fun and would be a cute house warming gift, or even an addition to your own bar.  Or, if you’re a real planner, they would be great stocking stuffers for the beer connoisseur in your life.  My husband would appreciate them. 😉

Kroger Two-Hour Delivery

I recently spotted this at our local Kroger.  Is this even possible?!?  Has anyone tried it?  I need to get my act together and make this happen.  Now, if they could just put it all away for me, and maybe fold a load of laundry…

A Gorgeous Kitchen with a Blue Island

This gorgeous kitchen from Design 4 Corners caught my eye because I just love the color mix and the wood tones added in for good measure.  It’s like a timeless and classic outfit of blue jeans, brown leather boots and a white button down shirt, you know?  Love it.

My +1 for the week – When lightning strikes

Back in July, we had a really bad thunderstorm, and a lightning strike so close to our house that 1) it set off the smoke alarms throughout the house and 2) my neighbor thought our house had been struck by lightning, or it was right in our backyard.  It was in our backyard, but has taken its toll nonetheless.  It zapped our big screen projector and amplifier (both had been recently replaced – the amplifier had been replaced just a month prior!), our home phone (yes, we have a home phone – cell service is terrible in our house), our modem, another tv, my hairdryer, two of our garage door sensors, and more that I won’t trouble you with naming.

What. a. nightmare.

I know it could have been way worse, and thank goodness it wasn’t.  I did discover that without a functional big screen in the basement, the kids don’t hang out here nearly as often with their friends.  And as loud and messy as those kids can get, I have missed them and am looking forward to getting everything fixed.  It seems whenever we go to fix something, we discover something else that is broken.  And then there’s dealing with insurance…

Have a wonderful and safe Labor Day Weekend!

Jenny

I will have to add that book to my list! As far as fall goes, I am still trying to savor every last moment of summer. Sure, I love fall but I will miss the long warm days of summer so much! Every year I am slightly heartbroken when summer ends. I know winter is down the road and these east coast winters can be brutal! Enjoy your weekend!

Love this Friday series ! We had a very similar experience with a lightning strike. It hit our well cap in our front yard, and traveled through our home, killing various appliances and TV sets ! And believe it or not – it happened again, about 7 years later. So yes – lightning does strike the same place twice ! After the 2nd strike, we had a local electrician come in and install a type of diverter that is attached to the electrical panel in our basement. If we get struck again, it will absorb the shock and it will supposedly not travel through the house. It has not been tested yet, and I hope it never does ! We live in Cleveland, Ohio by the way – not tornado alley or anything like that !!

Oh Jenny, what a headache about the lightning strike! So glad your house wasn’t damaged but such a pain for sure to have to deal with all those things that got zapped + insurance. Are you doing the ORC this fall? I signed up yesterday and need a partner in crime!!
