Friday 5+1 (5 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t) – 4.26.19

I’m overdue for a Friday 5+1, so I’m pulling my list together to share one with you today.  Sometimes I see things that I love and it’s easy to share, other times I have to procure a list over a few weeks.  Things are going into crazy mode as we head into May, with my middle son graduating from high school and my oldest coming home from college.  You moms of college kids understand that college kid transition dance that takes place when they come home for the summer.  You love having them home, but they’re used to their freedom.  Nevermind that they forget how to do laundry even though they’ve been doing it at school all year…

Let’s get on with the Friday 5+1!  This post contains some affiliate links.

COREtec Luxury Vinyl Wood Planks

I recently worked on a kitchen where the homeowners were doing additional remodeling to their home, and had to share the flooring that they used because it looked so good.  I’ve been seeing it a lot lately, and I’m on board.  It’s durable, it looks great, and in the case of the COREtec vinyl, they could install it ON TOP of existing tile.  It’s definitely at the top of my list for our basement since the carpet has been destroyed by teen boys.  They have every color under the sun and all sorts of variations in the width of the planks too, so there is something for everyone.  I’m smitten with the wide plank look with this Harbor Oak.

You can see the flooring being installed at the home I was working at below.  If you look closely, you can see that they “filled” the old tile flooring with a kind of skim coat over the top to level it out.  It’s a great option if you don’t want to pull out all of the tile and deal with the mess.

Good, Inexpensive Primer

I’ve mentioned before that one of my must-have items in my makeup bag is primer.  If I don’t have primer, I might as well not leave the house.  Kidding.  Sort of.  I’ve shared Maybelline’s Baby Skin Primer in the past, and it’s still a favorite of mine.  But when I was recently looking to buy more, the store I was at didn’t have it, so I gave Rimmel’s Insta Primer a try.  Also a great primer that is easy on your wallet!

My Lovely Wife

I have been blazing through audiobooks lately as I’ve been immersed in cabinet jobs, and I love that I can listen and work at the same time.  I recently finished My Lovely Wife, and it was one of those mystery/suspense books that hooks you from the start and keeps you engaged along the way. I think I finished this one in two days and was disappointed to find that this is the author’s first and only novel.  I was ready for more!  Plus, the narration is great, which can make or break a book.  I have returned books where the narration has been awful, and I’ve listened to some books where I am certain that the narrated version was better than if I had read it myself.

A New House at Sweet Pickins Milk Paint and Furniture

I’ve been following the home building process on Facebook at Sweet Pickins for awhile, and am blown away by how cool this house is (not to mention the views)!  I have to admit, one of the things that first caught my attention was the workshop that is attached to her house.  #mydreamhouse  It’s pretty bad that I drive around town and admire homes that have acreage and/or a pole barn.  This house has it all.  Not to mention that the rest of it is gorgeous by itself!

This is “The Shop”.

This is the kitchen in progress.  An island that goes on for miles and check out that cool sink along the window wall.

Taylor Compact Food Scale

I have been back to working on eating clean, and if you’re in the market for a small but efficient little food scale, this Taylor Compact Food Scale fits the bill.  Inexpensive and portable, since some can get a little bulky and hard to store.

My +1 for the week – People Looking for Free Stuff on Facebook

Last night I saw a post in several local buy/sell groups on Facebook where the individual indicated that they just bought a house, and spent all of their money on the house, but now they don’t have furniture to fill it.  Seriously?  I remember when my husband got his first apartment (after sharing a house with a bunch of guys), he had lawn chairs as his living room furniture.  If you put all of your money into buying a house and can’t fill it, I’m guessing there are some lawn chairs at Goodwill.  Or maybe a bean bag or two.

Don’t get me wrong, I am all for helping people in need, and have donated to complete strangers who have encountered tragedy and loss in their lives.  But this…  I can’t support poor planning.  Nor can I imagine getting on Facebook and advertising it.

Or am I just old and crotchety?

Have an awesome weekend!

Jenny

Jenny. I just finished listening to Call The Midwifes. The person who did the narration did an excellent job. I thought maybe you might want to listen to it

I knew that title sounded familiar! I listened to it – such a great book, and you’re right the narration was great!

YES GIRL….how can people be so rude as to ask for free stuff when they are out spending money on a house they can’t afford. I don’t understand people these days. It use to be embarrassing to admit your had a money problem. Now it like a badge of honor. I don’t understand.
