Friday 5+1 (5 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t) – 3.29.19

I hope you’re having a good week.  It’s spring break week here, so we’ve been getting a little sun and sand, which has been great.  It’s a “senior trip” for our oldest, along with other families and their kiddos.  Truth be told, I’ve never taken a trip like this, and was a little bit skeptical of how it would all work.  But, I’m happy to say it’s been a lot of fun.  We’ve made new friends and made a lot of great memories along the way.  I’ve loved the warm weather, and wish I could bring it back home with me, but this was just the break I needed, and I’m ready to come home and get back into a normal routine again.  I’m a slave to habit like that.  But, it’s been awhile since we’ve had a Friday 5+1, so let’s get to it!  This post contains some affiliate links.

Can’t Hurt Me – by David Goggins

Can’t Hurt Me is a book that is so inspiring on so many levels, I’d love to go back and listen to it again.  It’s a great read on the power of your mind to overcome obstacles and achieve goals that you never dreamed possible.  I listened to the audiobook, which I recommend because there is great commentary between the chapter with David Goggins and his ghost writer, which give some additional context to David’s life story.  He’s proof positive that the odds can be stacked against you, but you can harness the power of your mind to reach levels that you never thought possible.  Side note – there is a lot of swearing in this book, but if you can look past it, the message is still very worthwhile.

OPI Lisbon Wants Moor Nail Color

This is quite possibly, the perfect pink nail color.  I spotted it on one of the nail techs at a local salon, and made sure to get the name of the color before I left.  It’s OPI’s Lisbon Wants Moor.  It’s a soft pink, without being too sheer, and it’s a great neutral that looks classy and subtle.

Good Morning Sunshine

I’ll be honest, I haven’t been on the essential oils wagon, but when I recently worked on this gorgeous kitchen, the homeowner had a diffuser using Good Morning Sunshine essential oil, and I loved it.  I’m drawn to fresh, clean scents, and this one fit the bill.  Anything that makes my house smell like it’s just been cleaned gets two thumbs up from me.  I need all of the help I can get!

Cute Sloth Tea Towels

I love how you can always discover new products on Amazon – enter these cute sloth tea towels from Amazon Handmade.  I can never have enough of good tea towels (because let’s face it, not all tea towels are created equal).  And it seems like tea towels made of flour sacks are usually a good bet.  Soft, fold nicely, and you don’t have to iron them.

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer (and Foundation)

My daughter is becoming quite the beauty connoisseur, and even though she doesn’t require much in the way of makeup, she keeps me up to date on the best beauty products.  As a result, even though I don’t typically wear a lot of makeup, I do take some of her recommendations to heart.  One thing I do use regularly is foundation and concealer (even if I don’t put any other makeup on for the day).  It just makes me feel better.  Less exposed, if that makes sense.  I recently bought Tarte’s Shape Tape Concealer and their foundation, and I’m loving both of them.  Great coverage, without being heavy or cakey, and you don’t look like you’re wearing a bunch of makeup either.

My +1 for the week – Digital Coupons

If you’re like me, you already dread going to the grocery store, and dealing with coupons just extends the agony a bit more.  But adding digital coupons to the mix, just about sends me over the edge.  You know what I mean – something is on sale, but look, you can get an even bigger discount if you download their digital coupon.  Through their app (if you’re lucky enough to remember your login and password, and also have cell phone service in the store).  I must have been having a good day, because I got into the app, and had cell phone service when I last tried it.  And when I finally found my product (because the search menu is terrible), I get this:

Seriously?  Can you just do me a favor, and quit teasing me with the digital coupons already?  I feel like I’m part of some sort of behavior science experiment every time I try to use them, and end up even more frustrated than I usually am when I go to the grocery store.

Have an amazing weekend!

Jenny

Great recommendations, Jenny! I could really use a good concealer. As I have gotten older, I have dark circles under my eyes a lot of the time. Thanks – and enjoy your weekend!

I always have trouble with internet service in the grocery store. I wonder if they block it for security reasons. Anyway, I select my digital coupons before I go. At checkout I enter my phone number and voila, lots of deductions. Works like a charm. (BTW, I live in FL and Publix is my store.)

I have issues with my service in grocery stores as well! Sometimes it seems like it is by design, doesn’t it?
