We’re winding things on the 2022 Holiday Home Tour down today with some cozy holiday bedrooms today.  Once again, there is something for everyone, which is what I love most about this tour.  Plus, a holiday decorated bedroom always makes it feel extra special.  Christmas lights are magical like that. Jennifer at Dimples and Tangles is always bold and bright with her ideas and decor, and Christmas is no different! How fun and joyful is this beautiful bedroom? Sincerely Marie Designs brings a cozy traditional vibe to her primary bedroom. The greenery, coupled with the touches of blue amid the neutrals just makes you want to cozy up with a big snowstorm outside. This is Our Bliss is showing off her newly redone bedroom from the One Room Challenge. How fun to have a newly redone room to deck out for the holidays!  Rachael always brings some moody vibes to her decor, and her Christmas decorating is no different.  It’s a great backdrop for holiday touches. My sweet friend Lisa at Shine Your Light is sharing her cozy and welcoming guest room that’s ready for holiday visitors.  What a better welcome than a perfectly appointed holiday room for friends. Once […]

2022 Holiday Home Tour – Kitchens and Mantels https://www.evolutionofstyleblog.com/2022-holiday-home-tour-kitchens-and-mantels/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=2022-holiday-home-tour-kitchens-and-mantels https://www.evolutionofstyleblog.com/2022-holiday-home-tour-kitchens-and-mantels/#respond Thu, 01 Dec 2022 18:00:22 +0000 https://www.evolutionofstyleblog.com/?p=17435

Today we’re doing something a little new for the 2022 Holiday Home Tour – kitchens and mantels.  I always love seeing new ideas for a mantel, as I tend to get mired down and do what I’ve always done.  After we remodeled our kitchen last year, I shared its holiday debut here, and I still love decking it out for the holidays. Rhoda at Southern Hospitality is sharing her mantel and kitchen today.  I am seeing a lot of natural look mantels this year, and am really loving them.  Something that looks like it could carry you well beyond Christmas if you wanted.   On the subject of natural mantel decor, Cindy at Cindy Hattersley Design has knocked out something gorgeous.  Her entire home has a natural vibe to it, and it’s really beautiful.  I love the touches of rust with the dried oranges and how they tie in seamlessly to her home decor. With the start of December comes a month of entertaining.  At Home with a Twist, you’ll find great ideas on getting a beverage bar set up for your holiday house guests.  I know our beverage center will be working overtime this time of year.  But I’m so […]

2022 Holiday Home Tour – Living Rooms/Dens https://www.evolutionofstyleblog.com/2022-holiday-home-tour-living-rooms-dens/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=2022-holiday-home-tour-living-rooms-dens https://www.evolutionofstyleblog.com/2022-holiday-home-tour-living-rooms-dens/#comments Wed, 30 Nov 2022 22:06:37 +0000 https://www.evolutionofstyleblog.com/?p=17425

I hope you’re all enjoying the tours so far.  Today we’re moving on to living rooms and dens, and we have something for everyone! Whether you like bold colors, or a traditional Christmas, we have you covered, along with everything in between.  I love living rooms because we spend so much time in these spaces, and they really make your home feel cozy.  Especially if it’s cold outside, and you can add a roaring fire to the mix. Northern California Style kicks off with a fun, non-traditional take on the holiday Christmas tree.  I love seeing something a little different, and if you are one to have multiple trees in your home, I think it gives you some opportunities to try something new. Sarah, at Thrifty Decor Chick never disappoints with her holiday look.  She knocked it out of the park with her mix of jewel tones and rustic colors in her family room.  It just works.  I have been a fan of Sarah’s since before I started blogging, and she’s one who inspired me to make the leap into doing it myself.  She’s never afraid to try something new, and is always full of great ideas. Summer Adams has […]

I hope you’re finding something that inspires you in the front porch tours from yesterday.  I’m always humbled when I see the gorgeous spaces that these bloggers pull together.  Today we’re moving on to entries and dining rooms.  Here is a sneak peek… Southern Heather has a stunning dining room space to share.  I love the way she detailed the mirror and carried it down to her buffet.     Over at Most Lovely Things, you’ll find some great ideas on making your dining room look festive. A beautifully sophisticated dining room and entry are on tap at Hello Lovely. I love a Christmas tree in the dining room – it gives such a nice glow and atmosphere around the holidays, doesn’t it? Check out this cozy and inviting dining room at County Road 407. An elegant entry awaits at Marty’s house over at A Stroll Thru Life.  Gold touches are one of my favorite things right now in holiday decorating. Cindy has some simple and beautiful green and white dining room ideas over at Classic Casual Home. The line up for yesterday and the days ahead is below. We’ve even added something new this year – mantels.  Those never […]

Here we are again – it’s Holiday Home Tour week!  A week full of holiday homes – decorated and ready for you to tour!  I’m so excited to be hosting the tour again this year, and I’m kicking it off with front porches and entries. You can see that we have a great lineup for you this week, and I know everyone has been working hard to pull together some beautiful spaces to share. Outdoor Holiday Favorite – Greenery Galore I’m hosting my annual cookie exchange this weekend, and my 2022 holiday front porch is ready to go!  One of my favorite outdoor Christmas decorations is a beautiful winter porch pot.  You can buy them, but you can also make them yourself, which I love to do.  I have a full winter porch pot tutorial here if you want to tackle it yourself.  They’re such high impact decorations, and even better that they last well beyond the holidays. If you’ve followed me at all, you know I’m a bit of a wreath hoarder. I love having wreaths on my front doors, and added some fresh garland this year as well.  I recently sanded down and refinished my front door, and […]

Is it crazy that even ahead of Halloween, and I started feeling compelled to start decorating for the holidays? Surely, that’s not normal. But I will say that decorating early does make the holiday rush seem a wee bit less stressful. October rushed by in a flurry, and it’s been absolutely beautiful here in the midwest, so I don’t want to rush into the winter holidays too much. But, there is work to be done – including a Weekend 5+1! This post contains some affiliate links. Freshen up your Hair Sometimes I notice that my hair just feels like it has some sort of residue on it, if that makes sense.  I use good products in general, but it just seems to happen sometimes, and changing things up sometimes helps.  I found these two products and they lifted my hair out of its funk.  And yes, I know I’m not a beauty blogger, but I like to share things that I like, and I think you might enjoy as well. This detox shampoo, paired with this leave-in conditioner gave my hair a new lease on life. Fresh Scents I’m not a big scent wearer in general, but when I do […]

Every year, I look forward to seeing what sort of Homearama trends will be in store with their annual tour.  Sometimes I’m on board, other times not, but usually it’s a mix.  This year proved to keep with that theme, but some things caught me by surprise.  I’ll be curious to see what you think based on trends you see in your area. Moody Colors I have always loved rich and moody paint colors, and was curious as to if/how they would come into play in this year’s tour.  The kitchens didn’t go very moody with paint, but I did see color on the walls, and in some of the cabinetry in the bathrooms and bar areas.  I think you have to be careful not to go overboard, as too much of a good thing can definitely backfire.  You can also go moody with tile, counters, floors – and there was plenty of that to go around too. I loved this little butler’s pantry area – a perfect spot for moody finishes. A moody office – yes, please. I love this shade of green in this dining area.  So warm and gorgeous. Forgive the glare – but this shower was […]

The Best Sealer for Quartzite Countertops https://www.evolutionofstyleblog.com/the-best-sealer-for-quartzite-countertops/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-best-sealer-for-quartzite-countertops https://www.evolutionofstyleblog.com/the-best-sealer-for-quartzite-countertops/#comments Mon, 19 Sep 2022 11:00:08 +0000 https://www.evolutionofstyleblog.com/?p=17334

One of the biggest design decisions in a kitchen remodel is choosing your countertops.  Quartz, granite, marble, quartzite – the choices can be overwhelming.  As part of that decision, you need to consider the care and maintenance involved.  We opted for honed quartzite countertops as part of our kitchen remodel, because I loved the look and quartzite is also very durable.  Although one thing I discovered in this process, is that all sealers aren’t created equally. When it comes to sealing out stains, oils and water marks, it took some work to find the best sealer for quartzite countertops. This post contains some affiliate links. Our fabricator said that since the counters were honed, they may need to be sealed multiple times, and I had them seal the counters twice after installing them (as we were getting water marks after they were initially installed, and he told me to call if we had that issue).  Despite repeated sealing by our fabricator (and myself  with the sealer they recommended), we still were having issues.   What do I mean by issues? Water marks were one thing that we encountered.  If you left a glass of ice water on the counter, it would […]

I know I’ve been sparse – it just seems like every time I think about posting, something sad happens in the world, or even locally.  It just makes it difficult to put something out on the blog, so I pull back and wait. Add to that, my daughter had her second knee surgery in June, so things have been busy around here.  She’s recovering well, but will be on crutches for awhile, but is managing better than we both expected.  We’ve been watching Friends, ventured out to the movies, so the mother/daughter time together has really been a gift. She’s getting back to spending time with friends now, and I’m so happy that she’s adapting. Let’s get on with the 5+1!  This post contains some affiliate links. Vegetable Chopper I always love a good chopped salad, but have a hard time replicating them at home.  Until now.  I recently purchased a veggie chopper, and now my chopped salads are off the hook.  I don’t know what it is about the way a vegetable is chopped that makes a difference (to me), but it does.  I actually eat more vegetables as a result of using it. Choosing a Kitchen Sink and Faucet https://www.evolutionofstyleblog.com/choosing-a-kitchen-sink-and-faucet/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=choosing-a-kitchen-sink-and-faucet https://www.evolutionofstyleblog.com/choosing-a-kitchen-sink-and-faucet/#comments Wed, 11 May 2022 11:00:30 +0000 https://www.evolutionofstyleblog.com/?p=17294

With so many decisions to be made as part of our kitchen remodel, choosing a kitchen sink and faucet seem like small ones in the grand scheme.  But really, they’re not.  Think about how often you use your kitchen sink and faucet.  The daily wear and tear, and the workhorse that they are as part of the function of your kitchen.  Choosing a kitchen sink and faucet is a bigger decision than it gets credit.  It’s really a unit – sink, faucet, drying rack, etc…  It all works and functions together. Disclosure: This is a sponsored post by BLANCO America.  As always, all opinions are my own. Choosing a Kitchen Sink I know for us, we had always had double bowl kitchen sinks, so the decision to try a single bowl was one that stressed me out a bit, even though I wasn’t a fan of our old double bowl sink.  (It was smaller on the side where you washed dishes, and that was a hassle – I couldn’t fit some of my pans/trays).  But with a single bowl, where would I put dishes that I washed and wanted to let air dry?  Would it look cluttered, especially with our […]
