Once again, I’m late in getting my Friday 5+1 up on the blog, so you get a bonus with a Saturday 6+1. Lucky you, right? You’ll be happy to know that I was able to binge watch all of “This is Us” while my husband was out of town (I’m an over-achiever like that), and am highly disappointed to discover that I can’t watch new episodes until after the Olympics. What is that about? But, I’m practicing my patience and hanging in there for now. Let’s get on with this weekend’s Saturday 6+1! This post contains some affiliate links.
The book Get Well Soon: History’s Worst Plagues and the Heroes Who Fought Them is different from the usual books that I read, as it’s a historical look at plagues and diseases throughout history – with a side of humor thrown in for good measure. It’s fascinating in that we’re looking back at how people dealt with disease throughout history – and at the same time it makes you wonder how history will look back at how we deal with disease today. It also makes me very thankful for smart and persistent scientists list Jonas Salk.
I’ll admit it, I have Carmex stashed in multiple locations – does that make me an addict? Yes? Well, so be it. I love Carmex, and last year when we were in California and went for a huge hike (which was awesome) – I didn’t have my purse with me, so alas, no Carmex. I needed it, and we stopped at a drug store so I could buy some. I think it’s the best lip balm ever.
I will never claim to be a beauty blogger, but one area that I do pay attention to in the makeup world is foundation/concealer. I picked up the Even Steven Foundation, and I really love it. It’s a “whipped” foundation, so it’s light, but still gives great coverage. And the packaging is pretty funny too. Highly recommend!
My husband (and teen boys) are all huge fans of Tommy John underwear – and after washing them, I’m really wishing they would make some women’s underwear. They’re so soft, comfortable (so they tell me), and moisture wicking, it just doesn’t seem fair that the guys get the advantage here. So, when Tommy John contacted me and offered to send a piece of their clothing line to my husband, he jumped at the opportunity.
He opted for the Air Mesh Performance Color Block Crew shirt, and suffice to say, it lived up to expectations. He loves it, and is already talking about additional Tommy John clothing that he can buy to add to his collection.
Tommy John provided me with this product in exchange for my review, but all opinions are strictly my own (and my husband’s).
I spotted this via Prodigal Pieces Facebook page, but this gorgeous kitchen originated from Smith Hanes. I’ve always loved a mix of paint and stain when it comes to furniture, so I don’t know why it never occurred to me that this could be such a stunning look in a kitchen! Love it, love it, love it. Such a great mix – and the subway tile keeps it light. Perfect.
Grasshopper Pie was my favorite dessert as a kid, and my mom made it for me as a birthday dessert last year – the first time I’ve had it in like, forever. And I’m pretty sure that this recipe is the same one my mom uses. I swear it looks familiar. It was like I hopped into a time machine and went back to being a kid again. Isn’t that funny how food, smells and music can do that to you? In my house, you’re in one camp or another – you either like mint chocolate chip ice cream or you don’t. I do. And so does my daughter. Grasshopper pie is still a winner in my book. So Mom, if you want to make it for me again this year, I won’t tell you not to. 🙂
My +1 for the week – Missing Silverware
So, I recently bought new forks, because ours went MIA. Years ago, it was the spoons – when the kids were little, and I think we lost half of them when they threw them in the trash with their yogurt cup. But now, the knives are disappearing with alarming speed. Is it just me, or does your silverware disappear too? I’m thinking this won’t be a problem once the kids are out of the house. Just speculating here…
Have a safe weekend!
