I hope you’re having a great week and not one that feels like a week’s worth of Groundhog Days. I’m wrapping up a bunch of kitchens and then taking a break to go on vacation and also to Haven again this year, and I’m already looking forward to it. I am simultaneously in denial that school starts back up in just over a month. 🙁
Let’s get on to this week’s Friday 5+1! This post contains some affiliate links.
With it being summer produce season, if you’re like me, you want to keep your produce fresh for as long as possible, and not waste any of it. I may, or may not have eaten so much watermelon yesterday that I had to get up to use the bathroom last night. Who knew? I guess they weren’t kidding when they named it watermelon, right?
So, save yourself the trouble of inhaling on all of your produce. I saw these FreshWorks Produce Savers on a FB page that I follow and it is just what I need – keeps produce fresh, and the woman said that she had fruit that lasted far beyond what it would last without this little genius gadget.
Given that I am a card-carrying paint geek (and I get the magazine to prove it), I had to share something that I recent saw in the land of painter’s tape. Just when you think the market is tapped out, they come out with Scotch Blue Platinum Painter’s Tape. What makes it “platinum”? You can tear it like a piece of paper and you get a 90 degree tear for those tricky little corners. They even had a sample piece that you could test out, and yes, it works.
I stumbled upon these whole house air fresheners at Target, and haven’t used them personally, but they sure seem like a smart idea. Air fresheners that go in your furnace air filter to make your whole house smell fresh and clean. What’s not to like?
We were in Indianapolis a few weeks ago for a baseball tournament, and stumbled upon the most adorable dessert cafe/bakery. The Frona Mae Dessert Cafe. It’s a truly authentic bakery, where the baked good are made fresh daily. We took it upon ourselves to give them a try, and it was such a charming place, with delicious treats. If you’re ever in the area, please look them up – you won’t be disappointed! I love seeing businesses like this, and I hope they stick around, because they’re truly a dying breed.
The desserts are delicious, but it certainly doesn’t hurt that their shop is totally adorable.
I’m on another roll with Audible, and I’m loving it! I plowed through “The Storyteller” by Jodi Piccoult and can give it two thumbs up. It’s one of those books that is told from several different character angles, and the stories are intertwined from the past and into the present. I won’t give too much of the story away, but it’s in keeping with some of the World War II historical fiction that I have been enjoying so much. A book I was sad to see (or should I say, “hear”) end.
My +1 for the week – Orange Crush and Root Beer Pop Tarts. Really? In the words of my 15 year-old son – “You don’t do that to a Pop Tart. Pop Tarts don’t deserve that.” Enough said. I’m going to go throw up now.
Have a wonderful weekend!
