Friday 5+1 (5 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t)

Hello!

I’m a little freaked out that Christmas is next week and I still have a bajillion things to do (including finishing a client kitchen – I didn’t think that one through, did I?).  But, it will all get done.  It always does.

Here is my 5+1 list for the week.  This post contains some affiliate links.

The Nightingale
You know I’m Audible obsessed, and I’m on a roll.  After reading Secrets of a Charmed Life and loving it, I moved on to The Nightingale.  Oh. my. goodness.  Quite possibly one of my favorite books.  Ever.  It’s another WWII historical fiction novel – so compelling and heartbreaking, yet a testament to the power of the human spirit during times of unimaginable tragedy.

I highly recommend this one.  Whether you read it with your eyes or your ears, do yourself a favor and read it over the holidays.  You’ll love it.

Favorite Things Parties
Pam, over at Simple Details shared her girl’s night party that she hosts every year, and I just think this looks like so much fun!  Plus, how cute is she?

Here are her rules:

Each girlfriend brings five gifts (all the same) and draws five names when they arrive,
those names will be the recipients of their gifts. We go around the room and each one
of us tells what our gift is and hands them out. Our limit is around $5 – $7ish, but not
everyone sticks to it, and we have some savvy bargain shoppers.

Emily A. Clark shared her tips for hosting a Favorite Things party too.  So fun.  I might have to figure out how to plan one of these parties someday.

So you get to share your favorite things and receive the favorite things of your friends.  Love that.  Here are some of my favorite things, just in case you’re interested. 😉

Star Wars
We geeked out and went to the premiere of the new Star Wars movie on Thursday, and I don’t think I can remember my kids being so excited for an event, even though they’re 14 and 17 years old.  We even bought the Star Wars movies so that we could do a review going into this movie (although there was great debate about the correct order to watch them, and what is considered the “first” Star Wars movie). 😉

I won’t spoil the movie for anyone, but I have to say, I loved it.  A great mix of old and new.

If you’re looking to see the new Star Wars movie, but need to catch up on the old ones, check out Vidangel – they’re way cheaper than renting via Amazon or another streaming service.  Although if you want to invest in the Star Wars movies, they’re available for purchase here on Amazon.

Bad Lip Reading – Star Wars Edition
Whether you’re a Star Wars fan or not, Bad Lip Reading definitely makes it funny.  Just in time for the Star Wars Release, with new videos.

Birchbox Sale
Don’t tell my oldest son, but I got him a Birchbox subscription for Christmas.  And, Birchbox is having a subscription sale – one day only – Friday, December 18th.  Lucky for you, you can get 20% off a yearly subscription – that’s what I get for planning ahead (for once).  Use the code 20GIFT – it’s a great gift idea for someone who has everything.

Better yet, you get a FREE deluxe makeup sample for yourself when you gift a subscription to someone else.  How’s that for a win-win?

My +1 for the week is horrible furniture setup instructions.  Remember this beautiful bed I shared last week?  Well, the instructions were so bad that they left out entire steps, and the instructions they did have barely made sense.  Uber-frustrating.

But, the bed is up, and I’ll be sharing it soon.  Suffice to say, I’m pretty sure I was the most hated person on the road when I hauled it home.

Have a wonderful weekend!

I think you will love The Nightingale, Cassie. I could not stop listening to it. I'm going to have to add The Magic Hour to my wish list – I so love it when I'm into a good book. Hoping to read a few over the holidays too. 🙂

Aww, thanks for the sweet shout out, you MUST put it on your list for next year! We have the best time, and it's great motivation to get my house decorated early! 🙂 My friend tried your light fixer recommendation last week, and said it's a miracle! Merry Christmas, friend!
