House Stalker Home Tour: A Cape Cod Gut Job

Hello!

I hope you had a lovely holiday weekend with family and friends.  Ours was really nice, lots of gorgeous weather and baseball games, but also remembering those who have sacrificed their lives for this great country of ours.

Today I’m sharing a home tour of my friend Kerry, from my monthly bunco group.  She and her husband bought this house last year and completely gutted it to make it what it is now.  It’s a great looking cape cod, and I can hardly believe where it started – I have the listing photos, so I have some great before and after shots for comparison.

Here is a shot of the exterior – a lovely brick home that is filled with charm and character.

Including window boxes.  You know how much I love window boxes.

Here is a shot of the interior before the remodel –

And as it stands now.  Those stripes are vinyl – would you believe it?  I love the impact of the stripes as you walk in the door.

In case you’re wondering about the photo in the red frame, here is a picture of it up close and personal.  It shows you all of the blood, sweat and tears that went into this huge remodel.  I told you it was a gut job.  What a great way to pay tribute to the work that made this house their home.

Crazy, right?

The dramatic changes continue as you get inside the house.  Here are some more before shots – the difference is amazing!

And as it stands now:

The fireplace transformation is fantastic.  Can you believe the before compared to how it looks now?  Wow.

I wish I had gotten a better comparison shot – sorry.  But you get the idea.  It’s like a Benjamin Button house – it went from being old, to young and alive again!

Here is the dining room before the remodel.

And a peek at the dining room now (excuse the food – we were eating to gear up for our bunco game).

And now for the room that I know you want to see the most – the kitchen.  Here are some before shots:

In this photo, you can see the door on the left, which originally led to the basement.  I’m not sure what the door on the right was for, but that was moved/removed as well, which allowed them to completely change the layout of the kitchen to make it much more functional.  This is now where the fridge and additional counter space are located.  Huge difference!

And as it is now:

Their cute pup had to get in on the action.

Now, let’s check out the bathroom on the main level.  Here it is in it’s vintage state:

And here it is now:

Complete with a cool shower curtain:

The kid’s bedrooms are located on the main level as well.  Before, one of the bedrooms was used as a tv lounge area.

Now, it’s an adorable little girl’s room.  I so want this trundle bed – I have been looking for one for what seems like forever.

And a great girl’s gallery wall.

The other bedroom has been transformed as well.

Into a sweet little boy’s room.  Love that dresser!

Upstairs is where you’ll find the master bedroom.  Here it is before:

And now, it’s been expanded and transformed into a true master suite.

Here daughter was hanging out up here for the evening, thus the unmade bed. 🙂

A master closet area:

And a beautiful master bathroom:

I love how the stairway area has been opened up as well.

And finally, the basement transformation.  Here are the before shots:

And as it stands now – a warm and welcoming family space.

How cool is this framed military uniform and medals?  I love this.

And a huge bathroom down here too!

So, there you have it.  What do you think?  Pretty amazing transformation!  Thank you Kerry, for letting me invade and share your beautiful home!

Awww! I love how you documented all your hardwork in that remodeling. I think it's crazy and sweet. Hahaha! Anyway, it looks like you changed a million things on your home, but most of its charm still remain. I guess the character of a home has something to do with the owners, after all. Thanks for that tour, Jenny! All the best to you!:)
