One Room Challenge Week #3: Progress Isn’t Pretty

Hello!

It’s hard to believe we’re already at the halfway mark for the One Room Challenge.  And yet, I don’t feel anywhere close to being halfway done with my master bathroom.  However, there has been more progress, and after having a master bathroom in a half-finished state for a year, any progress is good.

If you follow me on Instagram, you saw that I was out shopping for mirrors and lighting this week, and I found some great ones while on the hunt.

I hit the Ballard Outlet, and spotted these beauties.

I really liked this one too, but they only had on of them.

Then I went next door to the Grandin Road outlet, and spotted this pretty little thing.  I love the lines of it, since our vanity has curves to it.  But, the scale wasn’t right.  I needed something bigger.

After peeking around at the mirrors that were tucked away, I spotted some larger ones in the same style.  Eureka!  We have a winner!

The bonus was that there was some damage on one of the mirrors, so they knocked another 40% off the price, so I got both mirrors for about $235.  I am going to paint them anyway, so the repairs don’t bother me – I’ll take the deal.

I mentioned that the scalloped curves on these mirrors will work with the curves of the vanity.  So, let’s talk about the progress with the vanity while we’re at it.  I have gotten a primer coat on the vanity, so you can at least see a little bit of change in that area.  The paint color will be darker (shared here), but I had this primer on hand, and it’s dark, so I went with it.

Again, progress isn’t pretty and I can’t believe I’m even sharing this horror that is my master bathroom.  And yes, I’m avoiding the patching and spackling that still has to be done on my walls.  That, my friends, is why this room has sat half finished for a year and why I’m participating in the One Room Challenge to get. it. done.  But that mirror sure will look pretty when it’s all said and done.

And yes, I’m looking at new lighting as well.  I saw these at the Ballard Designs outlet, but I wasn’t completely jazzed by them.  Should I be?  Now that I look at them again, I’m wondering if I should have given them a chance…  Or do I need a three bulb fixture, since that’s what I currently have?

I’m also on the lookout for a rug to cover the unsightly tile that I have to work with.

Fun, but not quite what I want for the master bathroom (I don’t think – again, I’m starting to second guess myself!):

Pretty, but I think I want more contrast, and something with some black in it.  This design plan is all about the art of distraction.  I think I’m going to have to make a trip down to Bargains and Buyouts.

I have more tricks up my sleeve to help to distract the eye away from the floor – just you wait and see. 🙂

Thanks for following me on this journey – it will be worth it when it’s all said and done!

Ooooo! I love those mirrors! So pretty! I'm not sure those lights would work with them tho…might be a bit clashy, but I'm sure you'll find something that does work!

Score on the mirrors!!! I sure miss the Ballard/Grandin Road Outlets – they're always good for some bargains. It may not feel like it but I can tell you've made lots of progress – your vanity is going to be awesome!
