Progress and Picking Paint Colors

Hello!

I hope your week is going well.  We’re bracing ourselves for a freezing evening of trick or treating again this year.  Is it too much to ask for some seasonal weather while I’m trekking around the neighborhood with my daughter?  Oh well, anything in the name of candy, right?

I wanted to give you an update on the progress being made in my parents’ master bathroom.   I shared the plans here, and it’s finally moving along and starting to come together, and it’s been a lot of fun to watch.

To refresh your memory, here is a look at the materials we selected:

Oh, how I love that marble back splash tile!

Here are some shots of the space before things got rolling:

In this area, there is going to be a built-in to store towels and linens.

Here it is after everything was taken out.  I was struck by how small it looks!  They’re going to squeeze a double vanity in there.  I wish we could have widened the area, but it just doesn’t work the way the closet is set up.  We’ll make it work though.

The tile has been installed, and the vanity is next.  You’ll notice they took the doorway back a bit to open up the space.

A closer shot of the tile.  Sorry for the color variations here – my mom took them and had some issues getting a true idea of what it looks like.  (My daughter had taken photos too, pre-grouting – hello Apple, my name is Tree), but she deleted them before I got a chance to save them.

As for the wall color, we’re going with the tried and true Revere Pewter.  It’s going to be perfect in this space with all of the different shades of gray, brown and cream in here.

Speaking of paint colors, I’ve been experimenting with different shades for my family room.  Ever since I painted my bookcases, I’ve been feeling the urge to make a change (plus, I’ve noticed that my walls have been taking a beating, courtesy of my three kids).

I started slapping different shades of gray on the wall, and ended up with this:

They look much prettier in this photo than they did to me in real life.  Honestly, I can’t even remember which color is which.  Since I wasn’t feeling any of these colors, I went back to basics, put some white primer on the wall, and bought three more (new) shades.

The top color is almost a perfect match to one of my favorite colors of all time – Silver Sage, but it is Gray Wisp (Benjamin Moore) – which reads more green in real life, the second color is Collingwood (Benjamin Moore) and the bottom one is Gray Owl (Benjamin Moore).  I’m surprised at how much I’m loving the Gray Owl, because I thought it would be too light in here.  But it really works with the natural light we get in this room throughout the day.

I may put the other colors back up on the wall against the white primer and see if I like them better that way, without the current color as a backdrop.  It’s a big decision (and a big room to paint), so I’m taking my time.

Where I’m really loving the Gray Wisp, is in my master bathroom (that has remained a wreck since I started stripping the wallpaper).  This color really seems to work with the tile, which has been my sticking point.  Ignore the color below it – not working, I know.

Maybe now that I found a color that I like, things will get rolling…

Do you have any experiences with any of these colors in your home?  Share!

Your parents' bathroom is going to be AWESOME! I'm loving the tile floor. I use Gray Owl often and I always love it. I consider it a neutral. I love that you aren't afraid to roll up your sleeves and paint a (giant) room. You go girl. Good luck trick or treating tonight.

What a fun project – I have that same linen floor tile in our Cincinnati master bathroom! The marble accent tile is going to look so amazing with it. This is going to be a fun project to follow along with.
