Benjamin Moore’s 2015 Color of the Year (and Color Trends!)

Hello!

I was purchasing paint samples the other day (shocking), when my paint guy handed over one of the new Benjamin Moore brochures – Color Trends 2015.  I snapped it right up, and upon opening it, saw their 2015 Color of the Year.  Are you ready?

Guilford Green.

Let’s take a look at it in a room:

Here is the shot that was on the cover of the brochure:

It strikes me as a more vivid celery green in the brochure, and I’m not quite sure how I feel about it.  It’s not a color I could see using throughout my home, but it would be lovely paired with a lavender shade of purple in a bedroom or bath.

I always enjoy seeing the paint colors that the different paint companies offer up each year.  Some aren’t necessarily to my taste, but I can most always find colors that I could envision incorporating in my own home.

There are four primary palettes that Benjamin Moore shared for their 2015 color trends.

  • Tried, True & Utterly New
  • Ground Yourself in Green
  • Quiet on the Set
  • California Cool
Tried, True & Utterly New (The Berry Family)

This palette takes us to different shades of berry and plum, also incorporating the color of the year – Guilford Green.  I don’t think I’m ready to go back to berry shades just yet – they remind me too much of my days of burgundy and hunter green.  However, I do like the Guilford Green, paired with Portland Gray, Chantilly Lace and Universal Black.
Something along these lines:

Or perhaps a room with this kind of vibe.  Quite lovely, don’t you think?

Ground Yourself in Green

There are a lot of colors in this palette that I find myself drawn toward.  Specifically, High Park, Jack Pine and Antique Jade and Seahorse.

How gorgeous is this island in Benjamin Moore’s Jack Pine?  I love it paired with the warm wood tones in the floors and the beam in this kitchen.  Am I crazy in thinking this island would have been even more stunning with a rich wood stained butcher block counter?

High Park is an equally rich, yet lovely color.

The “Blush Family” color palette is very soft and feminine with lovely wispy colors that complement one another in a very sophisticated way.

Silver Fox is sophisticated all by itself.  It makes me think of a Paris apartment.

Pink Damask gives just a hint of pink.

While this room isn’t Pink Damask (it’s Benjamin Moore’s I Love You Pink), you can see how a soft pink works with a pretty sand color used in the bedding and furnishings.

California Cool (Blue Family)

You’ll notice that Guilford Green is carried through each palette, and proves that it is more versatile than one would think at first glance.

You know how much I love a deep, moody blue, so it’s no surprise that Blue Danube is one of my favorites out of this color palette.

My friend Cassie at Primitive and Proper shares my love of deep blues, and used Blue Danube in her bathroom:

Oxford Gray is another one that caught my eye.  It’s pretty on the walls, but I could also see it on a piece of furniture.  It works beautifully with rich wood tones as well.

Harbor Fog is another lovely blue hue in this palette.

Love all the BM color trends but the color of the year took me by surprise. It looks pretty in your inspiration images that you found but I'm like you, not quite sure I'm on board. Love all of the inspiration you found! xox

I'm with you in questioning "color of the year". I will say, I have had Oxford Gray on my kitchen and family room walls for four years and still love it every time I walk in the room. Paired with Creamy trim, lighter hardwood floors, cinnamon toned leather pieces, and copper accents I love it as much now as when it was rolled on the walls.

I agree with you the Guilford Green reminds me of celery. I am not into the greys either.
