Homearama 2013 – House Tour #4

Hello Friends!

Are you ready for Homearama House tour #4?  I think you’re going to love this one – it’s one of my favorites.  Let’s get to it!

House #4:  The Carolina
Price:  $895,000
Square footage: 5,700 square feet

This home is another beauty, and while it looks somewhat predictable from the outside, it holds many surprises on the inside.

A charming copper cupola on the exterior adds to its curb appeal, as do those amazing garage doors!

Once again, gorgeous double front doors greet you amid some beautiful stone work.

Upon stepping inside, there is a striking graphic wallpaper (I touched it, of course) inside a recessed niche that grabs your attention.

To the right, another interesting wall treatment – wallpaper with a nail head trim detail leading you to the lower level.

The stone wall takes the textural element to the next level.

To the left is this rich looking office.  Gorgeous dark wood details, and stunner of a ceiling.

The coffered ceiling detail is duplicated in this peek at the gorgeous great room.  More on that later…

We made our way back to the master suite, and it was a beauty with the angled ceiling, elegant chandelier and bank of windows.

Loooove this master suite.

The master bathroom continued to impress.

While many of the other homes had separate vanities, which I love, there’s something about this double vanity setup that I find really striking.  Huge, beautiful mirror, chunky molding, rich granite and plenty of storage space.  What’s not to like?  I think I could get ready here in the morning, don’t you?

The tile pattern inset was also classic and timeless.

Even the closet was elegant.

We made our way back to the main part of the house, and there it was – the entertainer’s dream space.  Gorgeous.

My girlfriend and I fell in love with this kitchen.  The first white kitchen we had seen on the tour.  Beautiful finishes and details.

And the tile backsplash – fantastic.

I told you I loved the finishes – even the refrigerator door handles were beautiful.  I’m going to have to find a place to add polished chrome somewhere in my home.

Beautiful glass doors too.

Sorry for all of the people milling around, but I had to give you a peek at the view from the kitchen.  Perfection.

You may have noticed that there wasn’t a formal dining room as you entered this home.  The only true dining space was off the kitchen, with this massive round table and elegant chandelier.

I really love this setup, and I think it totally works.  (If I had my druthers, I would take advantage of my dining room space and incorporate it into the main kitchen/living areas since we use it so rarely.)

There is plenty of room to entertain a large party, but it still works as an every day space as well (although you’ll notice the dining room chairs have covers on them so people don’t get them dirty by manhandling them).  I would have to go with something that would work on a daily basis and could be wiped down, but still elegant enough to dress up for a dinner party.

You get a peek to the outside from here too.  I love the wall of glass so that the rooms flow together beautifully, extending the entertaining space to the outside.

Another shot of the great room from the kitchen.  Love.  Notice the cabinetry to the right in this picture – it’s a great little bar area, complete with wine fridge.  I could totally see this as a drink station for parties.  So well planned!

Isn’t the fireplace a stunner?  Gorgeous stone and dark wood mantel – makes me want to cozy up in one of those chairs and read a book, or chat with a friend over a glass of wine.

With no detail forgotten – there is an amazing built-in buffet to house all of your serving ware and good dishes for entertaining, as well as plenty of space to set up a buffet for guests.  I love that they did this in a contrasting dark wood, and incorporated some glass doors as well.

And the tile detail from the kitchen carries over into this space as well.

The outside space was equally captivating.  I couldn’t get enough of it – beautiful outdoor furniture, a welcoming fireplace and a wood ceiling.  But did you notice the screens out here?

They’re retractable.  You can have them up and let the air flow freely, or pull them down if it’s buggy summer night.  This was one of my favorite things, I have to admit it.  So very brilliant and practical (and yes, I picked up one of their brochures).  They’re called Phantom Screens if anyone is interested.  I certainly am!

The outside space continued with the pergola covered dining area.

There was a darling little office space tucked away off of the kitchen.  I really love that it’s a separate space and any clutter that may collect here is out of sight.  It could also be a great little study space for the kids.

There was a large second bedroom on the main level as well.

Complete with built-ins and everything.

Not to mention, a large attached bathroom.

Onward to the lower level…

It was a bit of a textural overload for me with the wall treatments, but that aside, I loved it.  Very welcoming, comfortable and fully equipped.

Workout room, complete with sauna.

Powder room.

Pool table.

And a great bar area that housed every amenity.

These bar stools are the bomb.

I like the open shelving down here too.

The basement featured two additional bedrooms that were light filled.

My only complaint is the view from the window.  I’m glad they have a ladder for emergencies though.  I wonder if you could plant something in this space to make it a little more appealing?

A crisp and clean Jack & Jill bathroom.

And another lovely bedroom.

Same view.

We headed back upstairs, and on our way out, passed another powder room on the main floor.  Such a pretty wall treatment.

Framed perfectly by the mirror, and a mirrored vanity to boot.  Notice the branch detail on the sconce.

A mud room drop zone with plenty of space.

And a pretty separate laundry room – the wallpaper makes it feel like less of a “work” room, doesn’t it?

Did this house surprise you?  I couldn’t believe how expansive it was on the inside based upon the exterior.  Such a great functional layout for day to day living, but also perfectly laid out for entertaining parties both large and small.

Minus the "textural overload" in the basement media room, this house is very well done. I adored the kitchen, family room, dining room & porch areas. My favorite house thus far!

I am interested in viewing the floor plan for the open kitchen, dining, and family room area. We are building and would love the angle my kitchen island. It would be helpful to see the cabinets to the right of the island and the overall size of the rooms.

Where did you get the bar chairs that are in the kitchen at the island? Love them

Would love to know where you found the kitchen island stools – having such a difficult time finding what I like and those would fit the bill & hopefully the budget.

    Thanks!

Sorry – this tour was from 2013 – not sure where the designer sourced the barstools. I agree, they’re gorgeous! I’m in the market too, and I feel your pain.
