Shades of Gray

Hello!

I don’t know if you have incorporated grays in your home, but I’m definitely finding it challenging since there really are 50 (million) shades of gray.  Case in point, the rug that I ordered for my husband’s office.  Online, it looked perfect – a great match to the look that I was going for.

A great match for my master plan – Cape May Cobblestone wall color…

And my inspiration fabric:

If you follow me on Facebook, I shared a pic of the rug as I unwrapped it – definitely more of a grayish-blue, vs. the darker gray that appeared in the photo on the Rugs USA website.  Here is a shot of it in the office.  See the difference?  Don’t get me wrong, it’s a gorgeous rug, and I really love it.  But does it work?  Why is my painting trigger finger starting to itch?

What do you think?

Definitely more blue. Like you said it's a pretty rug but doesn't match the walls exactly if that's what you're going for. We found out gray is a hard color too.

I love the rug. I think it's even better that it doesn't match perfectly. I bet once you start adding in the fabric and accessories you won't even notice the offset in color.

Ugh, that's so frustrating! It IS a beautiful rug, but I really love your wall color too! As much as I love RugsUSA, that's my one drawback. I'm never quite sure what the true color is going to look like. They are never descriptive enough. Unless it just totally clashes in real life, I agree with Brandi and think I'd just leave it alone.

i love it as is! i think it doesn't need to be too matchy either… it really grounds the space and adds a cooler element since the walls are more of a warm gray.

I hope my comment doesn't come thru twice my google reply never seems to work. It looks like the first picture matches perfectly so I can see why you choose it and was disappointed. Although the fabric picture looks like the background of the paisley fabric is blue too? Does it match that? You also have blue in other rooms in your house does it seem to flow into that room ok. I know things don't have to be matchy matchy, but I don't like it to stand way out. If you have any doubts return it and try again, you will never like it if your first impression was, ugh! Or you can repaint

I don't think it clashes at all. I think your wallcolor will be a soft background color once you bring all your fabrics and accessories into the room. The rug is so pretty!!! I vote keep it, and live with the wall color for a bit before deciding.

I love it….my vote is to keep it and see if love it or hate it over time!

I noticed gray was really hard to match when I picked out a new shower curtain and none of the 10 different colored gray towels at the store matched. It's almost like red, I think reds are really hard to match and I never would have expected it with gray.
