Hello!
As you approach our front door, you’re greeted with adirondack chairs. I brought these from our old house – they were a Goodwill steal, and I had painted them white. You can’t tell from these photos, but the white was looking a little worn out.
Enter two cans of Rust-o-leum high gloss black paint, and we’re in business.
And then there is the Black Door phenomenon I keep seeing. People painting their interior doors black – looking oh-so-cool and sophisticated. I love the look, but I’m not quite as daring (yet). So, let’s meet halfway and settle on painting the door to the garage, ok?
Here it is before – nice, but taking a beating with kids coming in and out all the time. Again, it looks good from a distance, but up close, not so good.
And as it stands now. Hides the dirt like a champ, but does it hit the sophisticated note? Honestly, I questioned my decision after I painted it (and I kept thinking that someone left the door open because I wasn’t used to seeing a dark door). I also thought of painting it a sunnier, more whimsical color – green or yellow, maybe even a navy blue. But hey, it’s just paint, an easy fix if I change my mind again, right?
Another spray painting project caught my eye the other day. The unsightly register:
No problem – spray it with a coat of Espresso Brown, and we’ll call it a day. (Mind the dust – the fireplace is undergoing, um, changes. Six months after the project begain. Ridiculous, I know.)
What do you think? Have you been painting your doors black? Or anything else for that matter?

June 13, 2013 at 12:20 pmI painted mine dark brown two years ago and still love them. Everyone thinks they are black on their computer screens. Black would have been too harsh for me in my house.I need to refresh some registers again, too.

June 13, 2013 at 1:33 pmI love the black door with the soft blue and white trim. Painting the registers is such a good idea. Our first house had the vent registers in the floor and they would get so gross. We'd go buy new ones – if I'd been blogging then I would have known to paint them. 🙂

June 13, 2013 at 1:48 pmLove your black chairs and the door looks great too. No, I just need to repaint mine white again, no black yet, but I do like the look. Hugs, Marty

June 13, 2013 at 3:12 pmYes, I am am in the process of painting our interior doors black. I have done the inside of the front door and we have two side by side sets of french doors going to the back patio that have been painted black. I absolutly love it. We added chunkier white molding around all of our doors so the process of painting the doors black got put on hold for a couple of months. Downstairs I have six more to go. I don't regret it at all. They look beautiful!

June 14, 2013 at 1:04 amI painted the inside of our front door black several years ago and still love it. Now I'm tempted to paint the door to our basement guest suite a turquoise. Just for something different.

June 14, 2013 at 10:53 amI love it Jenny but I could also see a fun bold color too! I pinned rich dark gray doors (Chelsea Gray) the other day that someone painted throughout their home and it was so fabulous and such a great idea. I love the vent too! I am all for painting white doors and about to do it myself. Have a great weekend!

June 14, 2013 at 12:00 pmI love the changes. I've been on a bit of a painting kick myself. That high gloss Rustoleum paint is great, isn't it?

June 14, 2013 at 6:23 pmYour black door looks fab, Jenny! I love the contrast it gives to that space! And I am soooooooo jealous of your Adirondack chair finds at Goodwill, I have been scouring Craigslist and online yard sales to find a few of them for our (future) fire pit. They look so great in glossy black!! (I think I have a problem with black paint. I just love how it transforms things!)

July 1, 2013 at 7:47 pmI love it! The color black color is very attractive! Not to mention sophisticated and classy! Also, being a dark color, it won’t easily fade, despite being exposed to so many elements.

July 24, 2013 at 8:29 pmThe dark door looks really nice, Jenny. Was it your intention to paint just that one door? I really think it's an interesting touch to your home decor. It's a nice contrast to the light colors of the hallway and gives off a mysterious vibe as to what's behind it. -Antonia Johnston @ A&B Siding & Roofing

August 5, 2013 at 3:45 pmWhite is already a good choice as it leaves a clean and fresh feel but black is also beautiful! It creates a lasting impression of elegance that goes well with both simple and complex designs.
