Let’s Talk Chalk

Hello friends!

This weekend was crazy busy with baseball games and an out-of-town husband.  Whoever thought it was a good idea for 12 year-old boys to play in a tournament with games at 8AM, 2PM and 6PM should be slapped.  And another game at 8AM on Sunday?  Just wrong.

Now that baseball season is getting into full swing (pardon the pun), it’s essential that I am on top of where everyone needs to be, and how many people are required to get them there.  It takes a village you know…

That said, I’m still struggling with identifying a “command center” for all of our stuff, but I think I have a fix that will help in the meantime.

Like many of you, I love all of the great chalkboard ideas that are out there nowadays, and the fact that they’re practical ideas make them even more appealing.  Look at this amazing mud room that incorporates a chalkboard wall.  Fantastic!

Although I’m thinking of something more along these lines…

But since I’m currently limited to a sliver of a chalkboard wall, we’re going to give the weekly schedule a whirl.  And, in doing so, I came up with this:

Not bad, right?

Although it starts to lose its fresh, organized look when I actually fill in the schedule…

You can add a similar idea to your chalkboard wall – it’s really quite simple, and I have Lisa, at Shine Your Light to thank for this ingenious technique.

First, I printed out the days of the week in a fun, free font – Veggieburger – available here.  Then, I used chalk to shade the back of the printed days (and ew, my hands are looking sad, sorry!).

Then, I taped the days of the week on to the wall and traced around the font with a pencil.

Which gives you this:

Then, using a chalkboard pen (I found mine at Hobby Lobby), I traced over the lettering again, making it look much more polished:

Oh, how I love chalkboard pens!

We’ll see how long this wall lasts.  I have a feeling my daughter is going to be filling it in with some more plans and activities of her own doing.

Are you as obsessed with everything chalkboard like I am?  How do you organize your schedule?  I have these items on my phone, but I’m a visual girl, and this definitely helps!

Have a great day!

    That looks so great, Jenny! I love it! I was considering doing a similar narrow wall in my kitchen with chalkboard paint and in fact the paint has been sitting on the counter next to the toaster over for…..5 months???? Yep that's how I roll. I love the days of the week – that is such a smart use of space and fun too!! {And thanks for the shout out, girl!!}

I love chalk boards and have several around the house. I can't seem to let go of using my plain old calander as my command central, though.
I love your organizing chalk board wall (and love chalk pens, too!)
