Summer Entertaining

Hello!

I hope you all had a fantastic Memorial Day weekend.  Ours was filled with baseball, yardwork and fun times with friends.

It was our turn to host “Dinner Club” – a get together we do with four other couples every month or two – lots of fun.  Nothing gets you motivated like a party, right?  While the weather was hot over the weekend, the nights weren’t too oppressive, so we got to get outside and enjoy it.

I picked up some Mason jars and used them to hold candles, since the only other lighting out here is the canned lights that are way too bright (and bug attracting) for evening.

The added bonus is that the smaller Mason jars double as glasses for summer cocktails.

Here is a great cocktail recipe that I made for this party.  It’s cool, refreshing and delicious – perfect for summer!

Summer Beer

  • 1 (12 fl. oz.) can of lemonade from concentrate
  • 1 bottle of beer (I use Corona Light)
  • 12 ounces vodka
  • 4 cups ice cubes

Mix the first three ingredients together in a pitcher until blended.  Add ice and serve.  (You can make this more of a frozen drink if you want, by crushing the ice in a blender and adding the liquid ingredients afterwards.)  It’s delicious!

While I’m still working on the potting bench, I did rehang the curtain to hide some of the stuff I was storing on the shelves.

And the progress continues on the outside.  More mulch was put down, the adirondack chairs were given a good cleaning, and my pots have been planted.

These pretties have been growing like crazy since I planted them.

Now that the back deck has furniture and is a more useable space, I feel like I need to add more flowers back there as well.  Enter ugly plastic pot.
I think everyone has one of these lying around in their garage somewhere.  So, I took some spray paint to it.
A nice addition to the back deck, and it’s giving me the the itch to paint and plant more of them!  I love what flowers add to outdoor spaces like this.

It's really coming together! Nothing like a great drink outside (I'm partial to porches since there is plenty of shade) and some pretty flowers to look at. So hard to get back to the "real world" after a long weekend, here goes…

Very Pretty! Love the little curtain you've added to the potting table. Your furniture and landscaping look gorgeous!
We've been hard at work in our yard in the last week as well. It's fun to sit back and admire all of that work! I think I will be giving your summer beer recipe a try!

Great job on the pottery! I use a lot of bronze spray paint for projects, but the copper looks great for what you were trying to do. 🙂
Thanks for sharing all of your great ideas!
