Mother’s Day Memory Jar

Is everyone ready for Mother’s Day?  My husband and I will be in Indianapolis this weekend, running a half-marathon (although when we signed up, we didn’t realize the race was on Mother’s Day weekend!).

So, since I need to not procrastinate plan ahead, I have decided to do something a little different this year.  Yes, I probably will get my mom a pretty outdoor planter, since that has kind of become the “tradition”, but I wanted to do something a little different this year as well.

A Mother’s Day Memory Jar.

This idea stemmed from something that was inspired by PK at Room Remix for Christmas.  (I would link to her blog, but she decided to stop blogging – oh, how I miss her!).  I made this Countdown to Christmas jar for the kids, and each day they would pull a card and read the “Idea of the Day” – it could be family movie night, baking Christmas cookies, etc…

So, for Mother’s Day, I have been writing down some memories of my mom, as well as some things about her for which I’m thankful.

No comments on the Neil Diamond reference if you don’t like Neil.  I once heard a comedian say, “There are two kinds of people in this world.  Those who like Neil Diamond, and those who don’t.”  Well, I do.

Then I folded them up to look cute and hot glued a little circle on it.

Then I put them all together in a jar, added some ribbon and a fun flower from my scrapbooking supplies.  Voila!

Knowing my mom, I think she is going to love this.

And really, as moms, don’t we love the sentimental handmade gifts our children give us the most?  I know I do.

Hope you moms out there have a wonderful Mother’s Day!

That's a great idea, Jenny! I know that I always talk about things I remember with my parents about when I was a kid. They are good memories for all of us to think about.

I did something similar for my mom's 60th bday. My sister and I brainstormed 60 memories of Mom, printed it with some fun fonts, and then had it matted and framed. She hung it on the wall with all of the family pics.

For my kids, I have done good old fashioned paper chains as a count down. We'll do a pattern (red, green for ex), use stickers, etc-hang them on their bedroom doorknobs and each night they tear one off. It's a great visual to show the passage of time shortening until the impt date.

Good luck on the 1/2 mary. I'm planning to do the Cbus again this fall with friends…this year we can all stay in my new house!
