Friday 5+1 (5 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t)

Happy Friday Friends!

The kiddos are off school today, so we have a long weekend in store here.  Hope you have something fun planned this weekend.  This post contains some affiliate links.

Online Grocery Shopping
Maybe this is old hat for some of you, but it’s just making its way to our area (and still isn’t at the Kroger that I usually go to yet).  But, it’s at a Kroger that isn’t far from where we live, so I gave it a try.  I literally just went online, placed my order, and picked it up the next day.  The great thing is that it brought up items that I typically buy, so I didn’t have to search around to find what I needed.  Talk about a time saver!

I think it’s going to be a money saver too, because I don’t impulse buy when I shop online (not for groceries anyway, Amazon.com is another thing altogether), plus, I can also take time to look at my coupons.

They even loaded the groceries into my car.  Now, if I could just get someone to come home and put them away… šŸ˜‰

Hide Your TV Cords without an Electrician
I’ll admit it, we still have some TVs that are hanging on the wall, with cords hanging from them.  I know it looks terrible, but getting an electrician out to do the work just isn’t high on my priority list, and, it’s not cheap.  Enter the In Wall Cord and Cable Power Kit.  This smart kit allows you to hide your power cables without hiring an electrician (the kit is about $50).  So. smart.

I bought one and am excited to put it to use, especially after reading about it at Flipping the Flip.

Murals Your Way
I stumbled upon Murals Your Way Pinterest (since my daughter’s One Room Challenge bedroom redo has been very Pinterest-intensive), and thought they were a cool way to add some punch to a room.

There are lots of options out there, and you could even do one with your own photo.

New Audiobooks
I’ve mentioned in the past that I’m an audiobook lover.  I don’t feel like I have the luxury of sitting and reading a book during the day, and by the time I get to bed, I’ll fall asleep if I start reading.  That’s why I love Audible.  I am always on the lookout for new books, so I thought I’d share a couple that I recently finished and enjoyed.

A Window Opens by Elisabeth Egan – I loved the narrator in this book too, which I’m finding can be a big deal (especially if you don’t like the narrator).

A brief synopsis, from Amazon – In A Window Opens, beloved books editor at Glamour magazine Elisabeth Egan brings us Alice Pearse, a compulsively honest, longing-to-have-it-all, sandwich generation heroine for our social-media-obsessed, lean in (or opt out) age. Like her fictional forebears Kate Reddy and Bridget Jones, Alice plays many roles (which she never refers to as ā€œwearing many hatsā€ and wishes you wouldnā€™t, either). She is a mostly-happily married mother of three, an attentive daughter, an ambivalent dog-owner, a part-time editor, a loyal neighbor and a Zen commuter. She is not: a cook, a craftswoman, a decorator, an active PTA member, a natural caretaker or the breadwinner. But when her husband makes a radical career change, Alice is ready to lean inā€”and she knows exactly how lucky she is to land a job at Scroll, a hip young start-up which promises to be the future of reading, with its chain of chic literary lounges and dedication to beloved classics. The Holy Grail of working mothersā€•an intellectually satisfying job and a happy personal lifeā€•seems suddenly within reach.

The Coincidence of Coconut Cake by Amy E. Reichert.

A (very) brief summary from Amazon: Youā€™ve Got Mail meets How to Eat a Cupcake in this delightful novel about a talented chef and the food critic who brings down her restaurantā€”whose chance meeting turns into a delectable romance of mistaken identities.

What is it about books that talk about food that makes them so fun to read?  The cover alone makes me want to bake a cake.

Show Box
Now, we’re not a family that goes all Clark W. Griswold and lights up the outside of our house, but if you are, and you want to add music, then I think this little Show Box gadget might be right up your alley.  I spotted it at Lowes in the Christmas section.  What will they think of next?

My +1 for the week?  Teenage speeding tickets.  Enough said.

Don’t forget – there is still time to enter to win the Catching Fireflies giveaway here!

Have a great weekend!

Oh no to the teenage speeding ticket! I feel your pain. It's a good experience to see the heart-stopping blues in the rear view mirror though! I'm sure that won't happen again anytime soon!
