Friday 5+1 (5 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t)

Hello!

I’ve been all out of whack this week with the Labor Day holiday, and can’t believe it’s Friday already.  Let’s get to it!  This post contains some affiliate links.

Plastic Cutting Sheets
My mom bought some of these for me, and they’re so smart, I had to share.  They’re thin, plastic cutting “sheets”, picture coded for whatever you’re cutting – meat, fish, chicken, etc…  I have four of them in my set – this set offers even more options.  They’re great because you’re using them for specific foods, and better yet, they store beautifully.

Tweezerman Tweezers
Given that I’m of a certain age, and unwanted facial hair is another joke that Mother Nature plays on women seems to be making more frequent appearances, Tweezerman tweezers have become my best friend and secret weapon.  They grab on to the tiniest of hairs and should be a staple in your beauty arsenal.

Bose Speaker
I have had my eye on these Bose Soundlink speakers since last year, and they are on my Christmas list for this year.  I listen to a lot of audiobooks, and like to Bluetooth them to a speaker so I can hear them better.  Suffice to say, the one I have now is one that I snagged from my son, and it’s seen better days.  Plus, these are just nice looking, and since they come in a variety of colors, you can find one to blend right in with your decor.  And they’re Bose, so you know the sound is good.  I have their headphones, and they’re amazing.

Offset Screwdrivers
Every now and then I encounter a situation where a regular screwdriver just doesn’t do the job.  You need to get in at an angle to get to an awkwardly placed screw.  That’s where these offset screwdrivers have been a lifesaver to me.  Keep them in your toolbox.  You may not use them often, but you’ll be happy to have them in there when you need them.

Garrett’s Popcorn
My husband traveled to Chicago for work this week, which is why this popcorn is on my mind.  All I can say, is if you’ve ever been within a few blocks of a Garrett’s Popcorn location, you know it.  It smells so delicious, and it’s an aroma that seems to carry for miles.  I’m not even a big popcorn person, and I scarf this stuff down like nobody’s business.  I think they sprinkle crack on top of it or something.  Perhaps the song “Jimmy Crack Corn” is referencing Garrett’s Popcorn.  It’s that good.  I recommend the Chicago Mix.

Rainbows on the Eve of 9/11
After losing my brother on New Year’s Eve, 2007, I asked God for a sign, to know that he was okay.  Mind you, this was in the dead of winter, and I remember seeing a little sliver of a rainbow in an otherwise dreary sky.  Since then, I have seen rainbows at times that are anything but coincidental – the day before his birthday, this year I saw one the day in between Mother’s Day and my dad’s birthday (since those days always fall near each other).  It has always given me comfort, and I feel like he is okay, and still with us.

Seeing this photo of a rainbow, originating from where the twin towers once stood, gives me that same feeling.  Those who we’ve lost in our lives don’t miss us, they’re always with us.

I’m going to skip the normal +1 thing I don’t like today, since it’s the anniversary of 9/11.  I think that speaks for itself.  Such a horrible day, that none of us will forget.
