Friday 5+1 {5 Things I Love + 1 Thing I Don’t}

Happy Friday!

Thanks to all of you who have commented on my Paint Picking Process post, and given me your vote.  I really take all of it to heart, and I feel like I’m *this close* to making a decision.  I’m also happy to hear that there are some of you out there who have put even more paint swatches on the wall than I have.  We should be part of a club or support group or something.

Let’s get going with the 5+1!

Clever DIY Built-ins
I recently gave an estimate for painting cabinets to a referral whose kitchen I shared with you here, and I instantly knew we were kindred spirits.  Her home is lovely, and she has an enthusiasm for paint as well.  Check out her lovely family room and the built-ins.

Those built-ins were a steal from our local Habitat store, and were actually a desk, dresser and night stands (stacked at the end) that she painted and incorporated into her family room beautifully.

Is that not the coolest?  The paint color on the walls is Sea Salt, btw. 😉

Her dining room is equally lovely.  Table and chairs from Habitat, chairs recovered in a fun fabric, and drapes hung with plumbing piping.

The dining room paint color is Amazing Gray (Sherwin Williams).

My Mom’s Crafty Skills
My mom has always been great at sewing, but I had to share her lovely towels that she crafted and sold at a local show.  She gave me the one that I admired and I have it in my kitchen now.  The top is a pot holder that she has sewn to the towel.  I use this all. the. time.  It’s great because no one can steal it and leave me hanging with wet hands.

The Overdrive App
When I’m working on things at home, I like having background noise, but don’t typically leave the tv on during the day.  I sometimes listen to talk radio (how old am I?), but have turned my focus to audiobooks.  Which leads me to one of my favorite new apps for my phone – Overdrive.

It’s an app that allows you to check out books via your local library (I dusted off my library card and set up an account), and now have access to all sorts of titles at my fingertips!  I stream them through my little bluetooth speaker, and am happy as a clam.  Plus, those audiobook reader people have the most soothing voices, don’t they?

Friday Night Knitting Club
In keeping with the idea that I listen to talk radio, “The Friday Night Knitting Club” was the first book I downloaded and listen to via Overdrive.

I had started reading the actual book on vacation this summer, but never finished it.  Then, when we got home, I felt like reading was a luxury, and not something I should be doing during the day.  Reading at night?  Puts me fast to sleep.  So, I listened to the first (and second) installment in this series.

Mophie iPhone Case
I don’t have this (yet), but my neighbor does, and now I want one too.  The Mophie iPhone case has the ability to charge up your phone without having to plug in to an actual outlet, while also actually protecting your phone from breaking.  They also sell cases for the Galaxy too.  So smart and so nice to have if you’re out and about and need to recharge.

What I don’t like this week is easy.  Unexpected and expensive home repairs.  Our furnace has always been a pain, and doesn’t seem to transition well to the seasonal changes.  Well, this time the repairs are getting pricey, and we determined that we’re better off just replacing the unit.  Merry Christmas to me – a new furnace!

I’ll chalk it up to Murphy’s Law, and I’m convinced this is what Murphy looks like:

Have a great weekend!  Big announcement coming up next week!
