I’m gearing up to head to Haven early tomorrow morning, and am nervous and excited all rolled into one. It’s the first time I’ve gone to Haven, and I don’t “know” anyone, yet I feel like I “know” a lot of these bloggers just from reading them for so many years. It’s a weird feeling, let me tell you. But, I can’t wait to get there and experience Haven for myself!
I have taken on a bit of furniture recently, and thought this one was worth sharing, since I know there are a lot of similar pieces floating around up there that people are looking to update.
I know many of us have had similar pieces of furniture in our homes at one time or another. I know I did!
My client was looking to update the look of this furniture, and sent me this photo, so that I knew the overall look and feel she wanted.
I’ll admit, I was a little nervous, since the finish is so much different than the original. But, it also gave the the opportunity to work with new products and experiment a bit. I used some more of the General Finishes products – their milk paint and some of their stains as well. If you remember, I used their gel stain on my front door and breakfast bar, and have been very pleased with their products.
Here are my front doors, all dressed up for the holidays:
I used General Finishes Milk Paint in Driftwood (I sprayed it with my paint sprayer, which was great), and then used a mahogany stain to give the furniture a bit more depth, and to replicate the look of the “inspiration” photo my client provided. Then, I topped it off with a couple of coats of poly. I also added new hardware, courtesy of D. Lawless Hardware, and it really finishes off the new look. I opted for some pretty glass knobs, paired with some pewter cup pulls.
There you go! Princess furniture, updated!
Have a great day, and if you’re going to Haven, I look forward to meeting you!
